We, at Bourke High, believe that all students can succeed. Bourke High School is a caring school and we acknowledge that effective learning takes place when students and teachers feel secure and safe, where morale is high, where people are happy and where a high value is placed on working together.

Term 3 is rapidly disappearing, and we are already close to the half way mark. As always, stu-

dents at Bourke High School have been excelling both academically and on the sporting field.

Last week we had a number of students travel to Walgett to participate in the Walgett 7's

Rugby League competition. All teams played valiantly, with the Under 14's Boys and the

Opens Girls making the semi finals in their pools. All teams came away from the day with

some victories under their belts. The staff who attended the day were very impressed with

the students' sportsmanship and enthusiasm. I'd like to thank all the students who attended,

as well as Mr Luke Doust, Miss Emily Anderson, Mr Samuel Simmons and Mr Bruce Turnbull

Snr for their work with the students.

Our Girri Girri Sports Academy girls had a fantastic time working with students at Bourke Pub-

lic School last Wednesday on cultural dancing. Again, all reports were positive, and Miss An-

derson has done a wonderful job working with some very exceptional young ladies. Thank

you to Bourke Public School for the opportunity to work with your students - it is always a

rewarding experience.

We also have been continuing to build our connection with the local police force, having an-

other BBQ breakfast on Tuesday last week. This was another successful event, and it is always

good to see positive relationships forged between the police and our students.

This week Year 12 students are sitting their Trial HSC examinations. I wish them all the best in

their exams, and remind them to utilise this valuable opportunity to identify both their areas

of strength, and areas to target for improvement. For many students, this feels like the last

'hurdle' of their time at school before the HSC proper, and I am sure all the students have

studied diligently.

A number of our Clontarf students have the opportunity to travel to Ross Kelly Cup in Sydney this week. This is a major event on the Clontarf calendar, and I look forward to hearing about all the wonderful things the boys get to experience on their trip. Year 8 and 10 students are also undertaking subject selections this week. This is an important

time in schooling: Year 8 students get their first opportunity to have a say in some of the sub-

jects they study, and Year 10 get to make the important decisions about what courses they

wish to study for their HSC. Information will be provided on the Tuesday evening in the li-

brary, as advertised in last week's newsletter.

I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Mid Term Break, and remind all parents and students that the school will be closed on Friday the 18th and Monday the 21st August.

Cupcake icing fun!Thank you Dar-ling, in particular Miss Lucus and Miss Ibbot-son, for a fun and en-

gaging Friday PBL lesson. We got to ice

cup cakes for Interna-tional Youth Day.

There were smiles all round in Oxley! Ex-

cept of course for the lack of YELLOW icing! Luckily... I had some yellow cake bling on

hand!

Bourke Warriors Under 15s team coached by Scott Parnaby and supported

by Patto Edwards were successful in securing a place in this weekends

Barwon Darling Rugby League Grand final after defeating the Lightning

Ridge Red backs 52 to 14.

This team should be proud of their achievement against a team that has

been dominate in the competition for many years.

Legacy Badge Day, 1 September 2017

One unique organisation stands by the dependants of veterans who gave their lives or health in the service of their nation. Legacy cares for the families of defence force personnel killed in war or other hazardous service, in peacekeeping operations or in accidents whilst training for war, and those who have died subsequently or are incapacitated. Caring for this extended family is a big task as we seek to assist them in coping with their lives, both financially and emotionally, whether they are young or old. We help organise housing, education, medical expenses and important special things, like simple companionship. Legacy is funded by public donations, which enable us to perform our legacy of care.

Badges will available as well as pens, wristbands and Army, Navy, Nurse, Digger and Air Force bears.
