BLOG: Health promotion in schools - reality or pipe dream?
Australian schools have had pressure to solve a raft of societal and health issues.
While this is unrealistic, schools can and do play a role in improving and/or protecting the health of all school users. A Health Promoting School attempts to balance the health curriculum and classroom teaching with supportive changes in the school environment, reinforcing health lessons with policy and practices.
Brush up on your knowledge of the Health Promoting Schools Framework and read some important tips to consider when establishing a Health Promoting School in this ACHPER Blog post by Sally Blane, current President of the WA Health Promoting Schools Association.

H e a l t h y F U N d r a i s i n g @ S c h o o lWith more Australians putting on weight, why not use your school fundraising efforts to encourage healthy eating and promote physical activity? There are plenty of fun ways to raise money that can also help to get your school community feeling healthier and happier.
6 reasons for healthy fundraising1. Make money for your school while promoting health and wellbeing2. Provide the personal satisfaction of being a positive role model3. Show your school community that you care about children’s health rather than profit alone4. Reinforce the health messages that children hear in the classroom5. Involve the whole school community (students, parents, teachers and other staff)6. Support the Fresh Tastes @ School NSW Healthy School Canteen Strategy
