Term 4 2019

Let’s make this the best term of the year!

We are on the home stretch! The term will feel as though it’s over before it’s begun so do try and make the most of what is on offer (and there is plenty on offer!) We’ve listened to what you wanted and would like to make the most of the sunshine with lots of outdoor activities planned. There are some longer days on offer (it’s a long way to the beach and we know you won’t want to go home) but there are also plenty of shorter activities if you feel like a smaller commitment. The term kicks off with your last chance to help pull your House over the line to win the hotly contested Angus Cup on Sunday 20 October. We also have Garden Party 2.0 on Saturday 9 November, so mark the date in your diary now. Boarders Get Baking continues to be a popular component of our Live It program. Don’t forget to bring in your favourite recipes to prepare with your friends. And, sign up soon to secure your spot on the after-hours tour of Williams Sonoma. This term we are also including the very popular Sunday night yoga session as a regular feature. Commencing at 7.00pm each Sunday. Meet in Goodlet House. Everyone is welcome. Namaste! We plan on celebrating the term in Boarder style with a fabulous Christmas party on Monday 2 December. Make sure you let your families and your BFFs know – they are invited too! And don’t forget, we are so happy to help you build your own adventure. Get together with a group of friends and put together a proposal, whether it is a night out at a favourite restaurant, a trip to a local market or an inner-city expedition. Get your ideas down on paper, suggest a date and we will do our best to make it happen.

Woohoo!

Week One

Saturday 19 October: Twilight Concert in Wahroonga Park featuring ABBAlanche!

Come and join your Boarder sisters at Wahroonga Park for the annual Spring Twilight Concert. You will be entertained from 5.00pm when Countdown Explosion will hit the stage with the ultimate combination of everyone's favourite hits from the 70s, 80s and 90s. Then dust off your flares and don your platforms and get down and funky with ABBALANCHE featuring all things ABBA.

Our Loreto Normanhurst neighbours (and hopefully our Abbotsleigh friends too) will join us and Avril will organise a special picnic dinner to share.

Transport: Train Cost: Spending money

Sunday 20 October: Community Afternoon 1.00pm – 5.00pm Community Days are special times in our Boarding calendar where all Boarders are required to be in attendance. This is going to be a short one but a good one as the Houses battle it out to gain the edge for the hotly contested Angus Cup. Who will be triumphant? Follow it up with a session of Yoga starting at 7.00pm!

Week Two Saturday 26 October: Jewellery Making Discover the creative possibilities of polymer clay and be guided by Boarding staff to create your own personalised jewellery. This fun and relaxing activity will take place in the afternoon at the back of Joan Hammond House.

Saturday 26 October: Ride Like a Girl – Hornsby Odeon This movie recounts the life of Michelle Payne, the first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup. The story ensures laughter, tears, joy and bewilderment. There is great casting in Sam Neill as Michelle's father, Paddy Payne. Teresa Palmer as Michelle Payne does not disappoint, and Stevie Payne is perfectly cast as his fabulous self. Many well-known Australian faces in the supporting cast add to the strength of this brilliant story. You bring the tissues and we will invite the Abbotsleigh and Normanhurst girls for a fun girls’ night out.

Transport: Train Cost: $12

The ladies from Jenny’s Pots in Avalon will be joining us this Sunday afternoon with a selection of pieces for you to paint. All you have to do is decide which piece you would like and away you go. All the materials you will need will be provided. Jenny’s Pots will then glaze and fire your finished piece to make beautiful Christmas presents for loved ones. Transport: Onsite Cost: $20

Week Three

Friday 1 November: Welcome to our new Year 7 Boarders for 2020! Come and meet the girls who will be joining us next year as our new Year 7s. Taking in art, burgers, good coffee and great cakes this walk can be completed in an hour if you don’t mind ignoring all the food suggestions or punishing your digestion!

Transport: Pymble bus Cost: Spending money

We are aiming for 300 stunning cupcakes to add to our Boarders’ Stall offerings and we need all hands on deck, including mums and dads! But it’s not all hard work, we will finish the evening with pizza on the TAS balcony as we bring together our mighty Boarding community.

Saturday 9 November: Garden Party Fire up the barbecue and turn on the orange press, the Boarders are here and ready to show what we know about running a stall! Donate an hour (or more) of your time and enjoy the beautiful spirit that surrounds our special stall on our special day. And, when everyone else goes home, get ready to party with our Boarder families with a lamb on the spit and some quiet conversation under the stars on the Marden Lawn.

Here by popular request (and to entertain our National Exchange visitors!) enjoy a swim with the best view in town. The Olympic Pool is a swimming and exercise complex located adjacent to Sydney Harbour at Milsons Point in North Sydney between the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Luna Park. The pool has a rich heritage including 86 world records being set at the pool by such swimming greats as Jon and Ilsa Konrads, Lorraine Crapp, Shane Gould and Michelle Ford. Week Eight Monday 2 December: Boarders’ Chapel and Christmas Party Let’s celebrate a fabulous year with a fabulous Christmas party! Join all your Boarding sisters, Pymble Staff and hopefully as many family members and BFFs as possible to bid a fond farewell to Boarding for 2019. Enjoy the Kris Kringle, make sure you pop into the photo booth and try out the karaoke machine (if Mrs Burgess has her way). Most importantly, congratulate yourself on a great year.

And for something a bit different…

Prefect Supper Club – Lang House The Prefect Supper Club is a great opportunity for our youngest and oldest Boarders to get together and meet our new prefects in an evening of relaxed conversation, friendly advice and, of course, a delicious supper. Dates coming your way soon!

View from my Window and Speaker Series ‘View from my window’ continues to be a highlight in our Chapel services. During this special time, individual Boarders take the opportunity to share stories and images from their homes. The presentations are captivating and heart-warming, helping us all appreciate the variety of backgrounds from which we come and the experiences that we bring to Boarding. Hopefully some of our Boarders’ relatives might also share their stories and enrich our understanding of the diverse community in which we live.
