Our team is now in the last ten teams in the state. The competition com-menced with more than 410 schools in NSW.

The state finals will be held at Women’s College, Sydney University early next month and our team competes in five debates over three days.

We would like to congratulate them on this fabulous achievement and wish them the best of luck in the state finals.

Creative and Performing Arts Report - Griffith siteI would like to introduce Miss Emily Chow to the CAPA faculty. Miss Chow has been doing a fantastic job teaching Music and Visual Arts for this term, as we await a perma-nent music teacher, who will start next year.

Special mention is offered to the CAPA students and staff who worked tirelessly in their HSC courses. These include; the HSC Visual Art students with Ms Gardener, Mrs Vidler’s HSC Photography, Video and Digital Imaging students, the HSC Music class with Mr Mahaffey and HSC Drama students, being taught by Mrs Innes. All of their hard work is really appreciated.

Recently students entertained with music performances and motivational speeches as part of the Griffith East Public School Retreat. These were met with great applause by staff and students with many questions asked during the Q&A section.

The inaugural combined MRHS Showcase was held at the Griffith Regional Theatre on Tuesday evening 19 November with many outstanding performances by students from both sites. Showcase would not have been possible without the valued efforts by staff and students from both sites. I would like to sincerely congratulate and thank all of them.

LOTE Report - Wade siteYear 7Year 7 have finalised all their assessments for the year. It has been a busy year, learning about speaking, lis-tening, reading and writing in a new language. Many students have accepted this challenge with relish and excelled. We hope to see many students back in Year 9 when choosing a language as an elective.

GermanMrs Hyder’s German classes have been looking at what students do in their free time, such as sport, playing electronics etc and compared this to what German teenagers do in their free time such as Euro-pean handball.

Mrs Hyder has some fun learning experiences to finish off the year. Students will be looking at German food and will have the opportunity to try some later in the term. Students will also use Minecraft to create both an Australian and German world for Christmas. We look forward to seeing what the students can create.

Italian Mrs Jones’ Italian classes 7A and 7B have been working through the food topic and researching the different ways ‘Italy, Australia and Asian’ countries celebrate Christmas. They will then display this as a poster or postcard.

To reward the students’ excellent behaviour Mrs Jones is organising Pizza Reward parties. ‘Congratulazione’ 7A and 7B for a great year of learning.

Year 9 GermanYear 9 German are busily working on their final assessments. Mrs Hyder is pleased with how the Ger-man language skills of the students has progressed throughout the year and is looking forward to an even better year of learning in 2020. PassionThis semester, Mrs Hyder’s Passion class has been looking at Japan. Many students have gone outside their comfort zones to try new things including ori-gami, sumo wrestling and Japanese foods. Watching the competitive side come out in some of the students was very interesting to watch during the sumo match-es. A special thank you to Ms Baddock and her PASS class for helping with the running of the afternoon.

What’s coming up?In 2020, the LOTE faculty plan to bring languages to the wider school community. We encourage students to look out for our ‘market days’ where students can try new foods and learn about Italian, German and French culture.

Year 11 Report Murrumbidgee Regional High School Year 11 students have tak-en over fundraising duties at both sites, from the departing Yr 12’s. Throughout the next three terms, the fundraising com-mittees will coordinate a range of events to raise money that will be donated to a number of different local charities at the Yr 12, 2020 Graduation Ceremony.

The fundraising events kicked off on Friday 1st November with the Griffith site Yr 11 students hold-ing a Freaky Friday event in hon-our of Halloween. Students at the Griffith site dressed in Halloween costume and were provided the opportunity to participate in the best dressed competition, with prizes awarded for best dressed Yr 7 or 8, Yr 9 or 10, Yr 11 and teachers. Yummy treats were available for purchase during lunchtime.

Then on Tuesday 5th November, Wade site Yr 11 students started their fundraising activities off by hosting Melbourne Cup Day. Stu-

dents dressed in their best race attire, some of which decided to add their own spin. The fundrais-ing committee cooked up a BBQ lunch and had a cake stall offer-ing many delicious treats for stu-dents to purchase at lunch. Also during lunch there was music under the COLA and the tradi-tional ‘Fashions on the Field’, with prizes awarded for best dressed male, female and teacher. These events were both excep-tional starts to the Yr 11’s fund-raising commitments and we look forward to seeing what they come up with next.

Coming up in Week 8, all Yr 11 will be participating in the Life Ready program, which is a man-datory 25-hour course designed to prepare and support senior students as they encounter situa-tions related to health and safety as they become more indepen-dent and gain more responsibili-ties. It focuses on offering oppor-tunities for students to build the functional knowledge and skills

for life post-school.

This year the program will be run across both sites, with students participating in sessions at their base site on Monday 2nd and Tuesday 3rd December and then travelling to Cocoparra National Park on Wednesday 4th Decem-ber to participate in a number of activities run by Chris Smith, Roped in Adventures. Students will be provided with a BBQ lunch on Wednesday, whilst at Cocoparra National Park. Stu-dents will be provided with per-mission notes and more details in the coming weeks.

ADVICE FOR YEAR 12 LEAVERS AND OTHER STUDENTS WHO LEAVE NSW PUBLIC SCHOOLS

While a student is enrolled in a NSW Public School, they are allocated user credentials that provide them with access to email, student portal, Google G Suite and Microsoft Office 365. They can access these services for free both while at school and from home - or anywhere else. BUT WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THEY LEAVE?

Students need to be informed that from the date they leave a NSW Public School - i.e. when the school has marked them as a Leaver in ERN - they have 180 days before they lose access to:

Their school email account (GMail) Their Google Drive contents Any Google Classrooms they were joined to Their Microsoft OneDrive contents Any Microsoft Teams they were a member of

So from the time that they leave, they have 180 days to check all their content/files in these school-provided services and download anything that they need to keep. There is no need to delete what they do not wish to keep. Anything left in their cloud repositories after the 180 days will no longer be accessible to them.
