Wellbeing Policy Update

We have been reviewing our Wellbeing Policy over the course of the year. The full policy will be discussed at the November P&C meeting on Monday 4th of November.

Solar Panels

No, we are not looking to power the whole of Wilberforce just our school! As you would have seen if you have been up to our school this week, the solar panels have been installed over the holidays and were connected this week. This system was jointly funded by our school and the Department of Education Assets Division. The estimated pay back to the school should be under 3 years and the funds saved will enable the school to spend more money on initiatives for students and other school improvements.

Lost Property

With the end of winter and the start of the warmer weather, there are many unused jumpers, loitering like lost teens, under the cola. Please check these don’t belong to your child. It is also an opportune time to ensure your child has their own jumper and not picked up someone else’s clothing. Please ensure all clothing has your child’s name printed on it.

Are You Leaving Us?

We are currently in the process of looking at our class structures for 2020. We realise some families move or have a variety of changes occur, which may result in them having to leave our school. If you anticipate that you and your family will not be with us next year, please fill in the slip and return it to Mrs Turner in the office as soon as possible or ring us on 4575 1424 or email [email protected]

This information is vital to us, so we can ensure we form the correct classes and support structures for our students.

Tell Them From Me!

Our school, like many other public schools in the state, will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement.

The survey is conducted entirely online and can be done from most digital devices. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated.

The parent survey can be accessed at: http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/cdn2c

Thank you

STAGE NEWS

Early Stage 1

Welcome to our last term of Kindergarten! This term will be a busy one, with lots of opportunities for Kindergarten to practise being in Year 1 and being role models for the next year’s Kindergarten students. In English, we will continue our independent reading skills with a focus on fluency. Our writing will develop in length with more structure being used. In Mathematics, we will start to work with multiplication and division by sharing and grouping objects. Our Geography unit will be about our environment and our Science unit will be about materials around us. In PDHPE, we will learn the fundamental movement skills of kick, strike and side gallop. Our art skills will continue to be utilised to create mixed media artworks and sculptures (with Christmas craft not too far away!). We will also remember our zoo excursion in our drama unit.

Stage 1

Stage One have a busy and fun-filled final term planned for this year. We will be learning about persuasion, opinion and how to write a persuasive text in literacy. In Science, we will be covering two topics, “Schoolyard Safari” and “Push and Pull”, where we will investigate mini-beasts and learn all about the forces of gravity, pushing and pulling. Our Visual Arts unit, ‘Backyard Art’ will reflect our learning in the Schoolyard Safari lessons. Here’s to a fantastic end to a wonderful year of learning!

Stage 2

Welcome back to another exciting term! This term Stage 2 will be learning all sorts of interesting things from soil to celebrations. In writing, we will dive deeper into the “Storm Boy” unit on informative texts, and we will finish the term off by learning about different types of poetry and making use of the filming studio to record news reports based on Storm Boy. In addition to our TEN program in Mathematics, students will also learn about position, data and chance.

Our Science unit this term is “Beneath our feet”, where students will develop their understanding of soils, rocks and landscapes and how they change over time. In Art we will be creating artworks that link to our History unit on celebrations of significance, in Australia.

During PD/H/PE lessons students will be identifying healthy eating habits and how that can impact their performance and wellbeing. They will develop their game skills and compare modern dance with bush dance.

Stage 3

Term 4 is a busy time in Stage 3. Week 1 starts with Interrelate lessons for the first 3 Tuesdays. Year 5 and Year 6 will have separate lessons which assist the students with their relationships with themselves, their family, their friends and their world.

In Geography, we will be studying Natural Disasters, focussing on ‘Bushfires and Floods’. We will learn the difference between natural hazards and natural disasters, understand the conditions under which bushfires and floods occur and how to make survival plans.

Camp will be in week 6 at Morisset. The dates are Wednesday 20 to Friday 22 November. Mr Wilkins, Mr Ranger, Mrs Chia and Ms Tierney will be attending. Please remember to make final payments by the due dates.

In English, we will be focussing on persuasive texts, in both reading and writing activities.

Assessments for Term 4 will be held during weeks 4 and 5.

Mrs Chia has held her first meeting with parents, to plan and prepare the Year 6 Farewell. In order to meet the costs of the food for the students, we will start selling Zooper Doopers at lunchtime. If you are able to donate some packets of Zooper Doopers this would be very much appreciated. This donation has been very helpful in previous years and we can provide the meal to the students without any cost to the parents. The Year 6 Farewell will be held on Monday 16th December.

WANTED!

Year 6 students – Mrs Chia needs your baby/toddler photos. It’s that time of year when we start to organise the 2019 Year 6 Book. We ask that if they are original photos that the photo be placed in an envelope with the child’s name clearly marked. You are also welcome to email them to [email protected] and the subject of the email to be the child’s name.

Mrs Chia would also like to thank all the wonderful Year 5 Mums that came to the Year 6 Farewell meeting on Monday. The next meeting will be on Monday 28th October at 3:30pm in Mrs Chia’s classroom, hope to see you all again.
