Jingee Wala We acknowledge the traditional custodians of
the land on which we live, work and our school
stands. We pay our respect to elders past and
present and strive to inspire our future leaders.
We are already halfway through the term with lots more to come. Friday was an extremely frightening day for everyone involved. Staff acted very quickly to ensure the safety of all of our students. It is vital for the school to have current up to date details for all students especially in emergency situations. Please make sure that your contact information is provided to the school if phone numbers change. Thank you to the support of Community Transport in ensuring the safe return of all students home on Friday. School Swimming Scheme Swimming begins next week on Monday 18 November. The cost is $40 for the pool and $5 for the bus for 10 days of entry to Alstonville Pool. Students will be travelling by bus departing at 9:15am each day and returning by 11:45am. Students will need to come to school with their swimmers and towel. Please make sure your child/children have a dry set of underwear to change into. Please make sure that permission notes and swimming is paid for by Friday 15 November. Community Cooking Unfortunately our community cooking class with Martina has been postponed tomorrow. We will let you know the date for the next cooking session.

Surfing Lessons Our year 4-6 students have been given a wonderful opportunity to participate in 2 x 2hour surf lessons with Soul Surf School Byron Bay. Lessons will be on Thursdays of weeks 4 and 5 and are behaviour reliant. Due to the safety considerations, any students who cannot reliably display safe behaviour at school may find that they are left at school on that day. We sincerely hope that all 4-6 students are able to participate in this enriching experience. Kindergarten Orientation We will have Kindergarten Orientation Day this Thursday 31 October. The following two dates are Thursday 14 Nov and Thursday 5 Dec. Enrolment information packs will be handed out on the day.
Have a great week. Dyonne Anderson Principal

Parenting Tips
Home should be a sacred and protected place. I know that extreme
situations occur in families but, as much as possible, we should
never tell our kids to “Get out”. Home needs to be a safe haven and
a place of refuge.
I know my children are going to make mistakes, mess up and do
dumb things. I know your children are going to make mistakes,
mess up and do dumb things. How can I be so sure? Because when
you and I were their age, we all made mistakes, messed up and did
dumb things. But, no matter what they do, at any age, our children
need to know that, when they come home, they will receive mercy
and forgiveness. Yes, there may be consequences from their actions
but, in the end, the goal is for your child to be healed and restored.
Then, together as a family, we can go out and face the world togeth-
er. This family unit you have created is a tribe and there should be
no obstacle so great that can destroy the connectedness and harmony
of this family. It’s a choice we can all make to ensure our family
bond remains unbreakable.
Lastly, just in case nobody ever told you, let me say to every parent
out there, You are doing a fantastic job as a parent. Your kids may,
from time to time, ignore you and berate you, but when they are
sick, hurt or in trouble, they don’t want their friends they want their
mum and dad. Nobody can restore and empower their heart and
soul like you can. You are truly the most important people in their
life, even though sometimes they may not show it.
I salute and applaud all the parents out there, especially the ones
taking the time to read this far on a parenting article. No matter
what field we work in, we should always take the time to educate
ourselves in that area. This is certainly never more true in the field of
parenting—our most important life role yet.
