I am proud to announce that Thulimbah State School is now a SunSmart school. When our sign arrives this will be fixed to the front fence. As an added bonus we have been lucky enough to receive a minor prize for registering. We have won a 3x3 shade tent, 12 x 1L bottles of sunscreen, 3 wall mounts for the sunscreen and 100 bucket hats. Wow! I was very pleased to have received this email and we will be utilising all of these amazing prizes as we promote the SunSmart message to students, staff and the community.
End of Year Presentation
Thursday, 12th December is our end of year presentation afternoon.
Proceedings will commence at 1.00pm and conclude around 3.00pm.
At the conclusion, we will move to the downstairs area where each
family will receive a Christmas Hamper kindly donated by the Barbara
Cherry Foundation. We ask that each family bring a plate to share
for afternoon tea and are welcome to stay around for a while, chat
and unwind to celebrate the end of the school year.
P-2 News with Miss S
In the Prep – Year 2 Happy Feet Room, we have been busy, busy,
busy! In History we have been learning about our changing world,
locations and have been drawing our own colourful and creative
maps. We are enjoying these hands on activities and have really good
ideas. In Maths the Preps have been learning their numbers
between 1 to 20 and sorting and matching the numbers with the
words. We have been listening to some groovy songs at the start of
the lessons to assist us with learning these. The Year 1’s have been
learning addition and subtraction, number sentences and counting
on. The Year 2’s have been doing addition with regrouping and place
value. We have been improving and getting quicker at these ready
for our upcoming assessment.
P-2 News with Mrs Gasparin The P-2 have been very busy planning their letter for Santa. They have planned the whole letter and are now writing out their final copy. They have included their home address so they should receive a reply letter from Santa before Christmas, keep an eye out for it. The students are going to post it at the Stanthorpe post office when they go there on the 3rd of December. A note will be sent home explaining this fun excursion in more detail. The students have started to receive lots of reply letters from their pen pals from all across Australia. We have their letters and art work displayed in the room. It’s beginning to look like Christmas. Science is always fun and hands on! We have enjoyed learning about rolling, bouncing, sliding, spinning and vibrations in interactive lessons. You should see some our work. They are hanging on our WOW work wall. With Miss S, the students have been very creative, designing and making their own musical instruments.
3-6 News with Mrs Cook
Another week has flown by. We have had the Year 6’s away at
Extended Learning last Thursday and Friday and by all accounts, they
loved it! The Year 3-5 ‘s worked hard on finishing off their
technology and science tasks. All students have now presented their

work. I was very impressed with the standards of presentations.
Homework
On Tuesday, all students were expected to recite one poem of their
choice to present to the class. The best presentations were Matty T
and Macy. Macy presented a poem that she had written.
Student of the Week
Congratulations to Montanna Casey who received a student of the
week on Tuesday. Montanna is always following the school’s values
of being respectful, responsible, and safe and a learner. Well done
Mon!
Year 6 Graduation Dinner
Have you received your invitation from your Year 6 student? Save
the date: Wednesday 11th of December.
Poetry
We are still reading and writing poetry in our English unit. The
following poem paints a very good picture in the reader’s mind!
Which Year 6 student wrote this poem?
My house
Upon my grotty green house.
My brothers eat their entire pet mouse,
All I see is my piglet brothers eating mice.
And see their hair stuffed with lice.
All I can hear are rats in the walls,
Whenever my brother calls.
At night I hear the screeching beds,
Sometimes I wish they lived in sheds.
All I smell is stinky poo,
Right after they get of the LOO!
They smell like stinky pigs,
That eat all the out of date rotten FIGS!
I believe they say oink oink to speak,
Our house definitely has a water leak.
Our house is alive running through the street,
Every week when our house is a mess the house grows feet!
Our house runs like a wild turkey after lying in pee,
I say hit the light and they actually do I wish they don’t live with me.
All I feel is sticky remotes.
One day they’ll hopefully live in boats.
I can feel all the greasy handles,
And all the icky unlit CANDELS!
I can’t find any clothes that fit,
So I get Nan to knit.
All my senses are stuffed from my brother’s stink,
Hearing, smell and sight I can’t see where I put my zinc.
Touch and taste don’t work so well,
Every morning my tongue will start to swell.
Prep Transition
The Pre Preps have been transitioning into the Prep routine at
Thulimbah the last two Friday mornings. They have all had heaps of
fun and have been a wonderful addition to our room. We look
forward to having them in the room next year.
Lecturette Competition
We wish Macy all the best with the upcoming Lecturette
Competition on Tuesday evening.
Each year the competition is open to 3 students from Year 6 from
each school. Macy was the only student at Thulimbah to nominate
this year. Good luck Macy.
Tour of the Granite Belt
Instead of heading away for our end of year excursion we have
decided to keep it local and take a tour around our great town. This
is a great way to showcase what we have on our doorstep and
support businesses here. We will depart the school at 8.40am and
return by 3.00pm. We will be visiting the Jersey Girls Cheese
Factory, Suttons Juice Factory, Kents Saddlery, The Christmas Farm,
Ashbern Farms (strawberry farm) and Castle Glenn. This is going to
be a fun and jam packed adventure. As we tour our great town we
will track our progress by posting on our Facebook page, so stay
tuned for some photos. Permission forms are attached to the
newsletter today.

meetings so decided to trial a meeting this way. I was great
to see a larger amount of attendees for this online meeting.
Thank you for those that participated, voted and added
comments.
Street Stall
Our street stall is tomorrow. If you have some spare time come on
down and lend a hand. Mrs Harvey and Miss S will be there all day
manning the stall. Thank you to those families that have baked
items for us to sell, donated jams and produce or offered transport
to and from the street stall for the tables and marquee.
School Breakfast Club Program The P&C have just been notified that we have been successful in our application to run a breakfast club program at Thulimbah. We endeavour to have this program up and running two mornings a week from Term 1, 2020. This program will require some parent volunteers to help oversee the morning routines and purchasing supplies. We will have more information on this in the near future.
Local Hamper for John and Bronwyn from the Barbara Cherry
Foundation.
As you would have read in the newsletter today each family
will receive a Christmas hamper valued at $100 each at the
conclusion of the end of year presentation afternoon. We are
very grateful to the Barbara Cherry Foundation for these
hampers for the families. Even though John does not ask for
anything in return I thought it would be a thoughtful idea to
make a hamper showcasing our local items to give to him to
take back and to show our appreciation. If each family could
either donate a local item for the hamper to contribute $5-
$10 to go towards purchasing items it would be appreciated.
I have been told that both Bronwyn and John love a good
bottle of red and we have many wineries in our region. Some
other ideas may be olives, jams, spreads, body products, etc.
Anything that is made locally in the Granite Belt. If you would
prefer to give a donation then please see Mrs Harvey. All
donations will need to be at school by Friday, 6th December.
Thank you.
