8-for-10 from the floor. The team was nearly as good from behind the three-point arc, shooting 58.8 percent. On the boards, Xavier dominated the Eagles, outrebounding them, 45-25.

• Xavier is guided by fourth-year head coach Kevin McGuff. A 1992 graduate of St. Joseph’s in Indiana, he picked up his 60th-career win in the season opener at Coppin State.

LAST TIME OUT• The Terps cruised to a 107-66 season-opening win

at Siena. It was the most points scored by Maryland since 1991, as six different players scored in double figures.

• Junior Shay Doron led all scorers with 23 points, as the Terps were hot on offense, shooting 65 percent from the field. They were also 58 percent from behind the three-point line, with freshman Kristi Toliver, sophomore Ashleigh Newman and Doron each knocking down two apiece.

• Sophomore Crystal Langhorne posted her first double-double of the season, netting 13 points and grabbing 10 boards. She scored nine points in the final five minutes to reach double-digits. Toliver and classmate Marissa Coleman each added 16 points, while Newman and sophomore Laura Harper had 11 each.

• Doron also had a team-high seven assists and four steals, while Toliver, who has been handed the starting point guard duties, dished out six. Coleman had a game-high three blocks.

IN THE RANKINGS• Maryland earned a No. 14 preseason ranking in the Associated Press and remained at 14 in this week’s

ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, which was announced earlier this week. The Terps jumped up nine spots from last year, when they were ranked 23rd in the preseason by both rankings. It is the highest preseason ranking by both polls for the Terps since 1992-93.

• After advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second-consecutive year, the Terps was rated 24th in the final ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll last season.

TOUGH SCHEDULE• Maryland is scheduled to face four teams ranked in the top 10 in the Associated Press poll, and five which are

ranked among the top 25. The Terps play seven more who received votes in the preseason poll.

• No matter which poll you look at, either the AP ranking or the ESPN/USA Today Coaches ranking, the Terps will face the No. 1 and No. 2-ranked teams in the nation. Duke is tabbed No. 1 in the AP ranking and No. 2 in the coaches poll, a team Maryland will face twice once the conference slate gets underway. The Lady Vols earned a No. 1 ranking by the coaches and was No. 2 in the AP Poll. Maryland will see UT early on, when it travels to the Paradise Jam over the Thanksgiving holiday.• ACC-foe North Carolina is among the top 10 in both rankings, while Michigan State is 10th in the AP and 11th in the Coaches poll. NC State is also among the top 25. Boston College, Arizona, Florida State and Virginia are receiving votes in both polls, while Xavier, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest garnered votes in the AP.

HOME SWEET HOME• Maryland is 29-5 all-time in home openers, winning the last six in a row.• Since moving to Comcast Center, the Terps have posted a 31-14 record at home, going 25-6 the last two seasons for an .806 winning percentage.

SEASON OPENERS• After a victory in Loudonville, N.Y., The Terrapins have won their last seven season-opening

The last player to tally at least 1,00 points in their career was Renneika Razor who played from 2000-03, including one season under head coach Brenda Frese.

GAME NOTES • NOV. 20 vs. XAVIER 4

REACHING THE CENTURY MARK• Maryland’s 107-66 season-opening win at Siena was

the fi rst time since the 2002-03 campaign the Terps had scored 100 points in a game and was the most points scored since a 107-51 victory over Towson State in November of 1991.

• The Terps have reached the 100-point plateau 40 times in the history of the program. They scored a school-record 121 points in a win over Drexel in 1992.

HARPER TAKES TO THE COURT• For the fi rst time in almost 11 months, sophomore

Laura Harper will be suiting up for the Terrapins in an offi cial game. Harper ruptured her Achilles’ tendon in late December of 2004 and was forced to miss the majority of the season after starting the fi rst nine games of the year. With the help of surgery and almost a full year of rehabilitation, Harper is nearly 100 percent and ready to contribute to her team’s efforts on the court.

• In the Terps’ only exhibition game of the season, Harper posted a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds to help the team to a 87-75 win.

TERPS PICKED PRESEASON THIRD IN THE ACC• For the second-consecutive year, Maryland was voted to fi nish third in the ACC, which was voted on by the

media and the league coaches. Junior Shay Doron and sophomore Crystal Langhorne were also named to the preseason All-ACC team.

DORON, LANGHORNE PLAYER OF THE YEAR CANDIDATES• After recording stellar seasons, junior Shay Doron and sophomore Crystal Langhorne were each named pre-

season candidates for the Women’s John R. Wooden Award and the State Farm/WBCA Wade Trophy. Both awards are presented to the nation’s top women’s basketball player at the conclusion of the season.

WHO’S BACK• Maryland returns nine starters from last year’s 22-10 team, including four starters. Among the returnees are

national player of the year candidates Shay Doron and Crystal Langhorne. Doron was an Kodak/WBCA Honor-able Mention All-American last season and was also named fi rst team All-ACC. Langhorne is the reigning ACC Rookie of the Year and also earned a spot on the second team all-conference squad.

• Junior Kalika France is among the starters returning. A two-year starter, she has started all but one game since arriving on campus. Sophomore Laura Harper will be making her return from an Achilles’ tendon injury which forced her to miss the majority of the 2004-05 campaign. Classmate Jade Perry took over the starting duties after Harper went down with injury. Also back and ready to take the team to new heights are sophomore Ashleigh Newman, junior Aurelie Noirez and seniors Charmaine Carr and Angel Ross. Ross is still working her way back from an off-season injury.

FRESE WELCOMES NO. 4 RECRUITING CLASS• Head coach Brenda Frese recruited her third-consecutive top 10 recruiting class and the second straight ranked

in the top fi ve. This year’s incoming class was ranked fourth in the nation. Freshmen Marissa Coleman and Kristi Toliver are expected to make immediate impacts, with Toliver stepping in to take over the point guard duties. Both have earned a number of honors, including McDonald’s, WBCA and Parade All-American nods, and each were selected their home state’s Gatorade Player of the Year.

ALSO JOINING THE TERPS• Also joining the 2005-06 Maryland Terrapin squad is sophomore transfer Christie Marrone. A native of Brooklyn,

N.Y., Marrone averaged 4.3 points and 1.5 assists per game, while shooting .359 from three-point land while at Virginia Tech. She helped the Hokies earn an NCAA Tournament bid, drawing their fi rst-round site at Comcast Center.

• Marrone will redshirt the 2005-06 season due to NCAA transfer rules. She is allowed to practice with the team, but will not dress for games.

UP NEXT• The Terps come home to play in front of the home crowd for the fi rst time this season. Maryland hosts Xavier

on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 2 p.m.
