Terry Fox was born on July 28th, 1958 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. As an enthusiastic athlete, he loved many sports such as basketball. However, he was eventually diagnosed with osteosarcoma -- a cancer that starts in the knee – which led to the amputation of his right leg.

Terry temporarily stopped his run near Thunder Bay, Ontario in order to be driven to a hospital. It was there where he realized that he was forced to end his run after 143 days.

Terry passed away on June 28, 1981 due to the constantly spreading cancer; his funeral was broadcasted on national television. In the end, Terry had raised $1.7 million.

“I'm not a dreamer, and I'm not saying this will initiate any kind of definitive answer or cure to cancer, but Ibelieve in miracles. I have to.”
