Test Machine Applications
Test machines require accurate, real-time positionmeasurements in order to provide realistic simulation of movement and reliably represent the desired behaviour of objects undergoing the test. For this reason, Temposonics®
magnetostrictive linear-position sensors are designed with ahigh quality measuring signal for applications that need highsampling rates and dynamic control.
Sampling Rates up to 10 kHz
MTS displacement sensors provide absolute position values without any frequency-dependent amplitudephase shift. The high quality signal can provide measurementsat sampling rates up to 10 kHz, independent of stroke length.
These magnetostrictive position sensors communicate via di-rect analogue or digital interfaces without external signalconverters. The R-Series model with Synchronous SerialInterface (SSI) is best suited for dynamic control applicationswhich synchronises all position measurements with the con-troller clock cycle in order to provide deriving velocity and ac-celeration values.
Precise and Immune to Interference
MTS position sensors offer superior resolution of 0.5 μm, independent of the measuring length up to 20 me-ters. The non-linearity is better than ± 0.01 % F.S., and canbe improved 3 to 10 times using a linearity correction option.
High electromagnetic compatibility and resistance to shockand vibration ensure reliable, robust measurements. Designedfor vibration up to 30 gav, the sensors can be used success-fully on tough applications such as punching or nibbling ma-chines.
The wide temperature range from -40°C to +125°C, provideshigh accuracy even under difficult environmental conditions.

For Real-Time Applications
The advantages of Temposonics® position sensorsare particularly apparent in dynamic applications with highacceleration, such as linear motors or hydraulically-driven testmachines, for example:
• Roller chassis dynamometers• Performance testing• Component testing• Engine test benches• Brake test machines• Transmission test beds• Material testing machines• Test systems for vibration and imbalance• Earthquake simulators• Wood and paper testing• Road simulation test benches• Hexapod micropositioning systems• Test systems for aircrafts and rail vehicles
Space-Saving Design
The magnetostrictive measuring technology inTemposonics® R-Series position sensors requires very littlespace and is offered in a variety of housing options with thesensing element running parallel to the measurement axis.Detached electronics are also available for easier installation intight spaces. No space for mounting the electronics headneeds to be provided, because it can be installed away fromthe measuring axis.
Hence these compact measuring systems can be designedinto many space-limited areas, or retrofitted onto existingmachines.
RP - Profile housing for external mounting in the motion axis capable ofmeasuring several positions simultaneously
RH - Rod-shaped housing for direct integration into the hydraulic cylinder
RD4 - Detached electronics for installation in limited space conditions
RF - Flexible sensor for easy installation in equipment with long displace-ments or measurements on curves

Dear Business Partner,
authentic testing under realistic conditions is only possibleusing reliable sensors. However, many position technologieshave limitations.
Manufacturers of test machines report that position sensorsby other manufacturers are prone to wear and require replace-ment. Many transducers cause high maintenance expensesand must be recalibrated frequently by a skilled technician.Furthermore, the measurement accuracy is often impacted byenvironmental conditions such as shock, vibration and tempe-rature.
In order to address these issues, we are pleased to offermanufacturers a solution. Our Temposonics® R-Series posi-tion sensors provide high-speed, non-contact position measu-rements that outperform many alternative technologies suchas potentiometers or LVDTs without the wear and maintenan-ce expenses.
With kind regards from Lüdenscheid,
