A Word From Your MP......................... We are lucky in Wolverhampton to have so many

excellent schools, with staff committed to high standards of education that prepare our young people for theworld of work. I know that I would not be a Member of Parliament today had it not been for the exceptionalteachers who inspired me to reach my potential. I always have and always will continue to champion education in Wolverhampton, Exceptional educationenables us to create the next generation of doctors, business people, lawyers, artists, and whatever else youngpeople aspire to achieve. One of the highlights of my recent work in Wolverhampton was attending the opening of some newclassrooms at Nishkam Primary School, where I was joined by Rt. Hon William Hague MP. As a free school,Nishkam Primary has the power to govern its own curriculum and uses this to focus on not only traditionalacademia, but also vital teaching on values and how to be good citizens. William Hague commented on the quality of the speeches given by students, saying they were better thansome he has heard in the House of Commons!I also welcomed the Minister for Schools and Equality, Nick Gibb MP to Highfields School in Penn. In particularI was very impressed with their Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) teaching. It was apleasure to meet with members of the STEM club for a discussion about their plans for the future, the use oftechnology in the classrooms and a lively political discussion. Both these schools are perfect examples of the exceptional education being provided to our young people inWolverhampton and there are many more fantastic schools in the city. I am pleased that since 2010 there are250,000 fewer children in failing schools, however I remain determined to ensure there are no children infailing schools. The government will continue to expect high standards of education and intervene whereschools are judged to require improvement. I am encouraged by the schools I visit in Wolverhampton and I look forward to visiting many more. Please donot hesitate to contact me regarding your child’s education, or indeed any other issues you wish to raise.

Your Local Police:I am Police Sergeant Gavin Plumridge and I am the supervisor

for Tettenhall Regis, Tettenhall Wightwick and Oxley. We are delighted to have a slot in Tettenhall Pages and will beproviding lots of information regarding crime in your area. We will start with the basics of how you can get in touch with your Policing Team. You can contact us in various ways:

Email us: [email protected] or [email protected]: 101 ext. 871 6050, Follow us on Twitter: @OxleyTettenhall, Follow us on Facebook : Wolverhampton Police FacebookYou can also come along to your PACT meetings. PACT meetings are Police and Communities Together meetings and they enable our communitiesto directly influence their policing priorities. The neighbourhood sergeant is responsible for identifying the different groups within their area, andthen getting representatives for these groups to attend the meeting. This will include elected members, designated community representativessuch as, tenant and residents groups, neighbourhood watch co-ordinators and faith group leaders. All issues identified from engagement activity, orby persons present at the meeting, will be discussed. Usually a maximum of three crime and safety priorities will be identified, and the actions inrelation to them will be agreed at the meeting. The meeting is a public meet and everyone is welcome. The meetings really do influence thepolicing in the local area. To find out when your next PACT meetings are please visit: www.west-midlands.police.uk Have you thought of joining forces with officers and starting a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme? Neighbourhood Watch is a voluntary network ofschemes where neighbours come together, along with the police, the council and other partner agencies, to build safe and friendly communities.Across the city of Wolverhampton there are currently 299 active schemes helping us drive out crime! If you would like to be our 300 th scheme orfor information on how neighbourhood watch could transform your neighbourhood contact one of the team via the means mentioned above. And finally! As we approach the spring months, it is an opportune time to consider tidying up the garden for the warm weather. It is also the time when leaflets are posted and occasionally individuals start knocking on the door offering their unqualified gardening services. Please make sure that you use reputable companies. Unfortunately there are some unscrupulous individuals that offer a service, take the money and never return to do the work or take the opportunity to enter the home in order to take items that dot belong to them. These individuals often target the old and vulnerable and never have any intention of completing the work. Please look out for vulnerable neighbours and report and suspicious activity.
