One of these secrets can be found in our newest US wine list, in the fantastic 2015 Liebfraumilch from Christoph Hammel. Christoph Hammel was raised in the Pfalz region where using the traditional German grape varieties of Müller-Thurgau, Scheurebe and Kerner. He has created a high quality wine to restore the Liebfraumilch line and you will not be disappointed when you taste this fresh new spirit in the Liebfraumilch of the Hammel winery!

The Liebfraumilch is not the only secret of the Hammel winery. There is also Gransecco a beautiful sparkling rosé with a modern and distinctively creative label. This sparkling wine will delight you with its freshness and intense aromas of raspberries and cherries. Perfect for summer evenings with friends and family. Though new to our cellars, the winery of Salomon Undhof is no secret, however their Gruner Veltliner from the region Kremstal is a secret we are sharing with you. The wines of Salomon Undhof are very famous and are found on the finest tables all over the world. Not surprisingly in 2016 “Wine & Spirits” Magazine named them one of the 100 top wineries in the world.

Spanish red wines are on the rise and enjoying a real popularity. For this offer, we selected three new Spanish reds, the 2015 Pla Cazada, the 2015 Garnacha Marcial and our BASF Exklusiv 2014 TT Telmo Rodriguez from the Toro wine region.

ProductsThe vast majority of the wines in this offer are produced by growers with only small holdings of any particular vineyard. The vintage indicated in our wine selection is therefore often available in only limited quantities. If this vintage should sell out during an offer to you, and the wine grower is only able to supply the same wine in a later and qualitatively equivalent vintage, we reserve the right to substitute the vintage without any special notification.

OrderingThe BASF Wine Cellar in Ludwigshafen has contracted a winery retailer and an importer-distributor to fulfill wine orders in the United States. These companies do not carry stock of the special wines in the BASF offer, but procure them specifically for your order. Because of this, we need a guarantee against the wines shipped: i.e. credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover) or check pre-payments.

Thanks to this system of pre-ordering, the BASF Wine Cellar is able to offer customers and employees wines of exceptional quality that are not available elsewhere in the United States. BASF currently has two offers annually, one for the spring and one for the fall. Please note that all prices listed in this offer are without shipping and sales tax. Depending on where your order is being delivered, sales tax may vary be-tween 6.25% - 8.25%. Shipping and handling is a standard $24.99 per 12-bottle case and $19.99 for a 6-bottle case.

DeliveryThese wines are imported in very limited quantity and it is vital that you make yourself available for the delivery. If you need to change shipping address to a location that is more convenient or delay the delivery, please contact the Bella Vini via email by April 30, 2017. Unless otherwise notified, all orders will be delivered via UPS or FedEx by Ground end of June. Customers who give an email address on the order form will be notified of the exact ship date and receive a tracking number. During periods of extreme temperature, our retailer will hold your package to prevent damage to wine.

You must be at least 21 years old to order and receive wine by federal law. An adult signature is required for all deliveries. Cost of reshipping undeliverable packages will be charged to customer.

It was indeed the Mediterranean landscape, mild climate and warm, well-drained soils, where figs and lemons flourish, fruit trees abound, and tobacco, chestnuts, walnuts and almonds are harvested, that convinced the Romans to build so many villas in the Pfalz. Each mansion had of course its own wine- pressing hall.

During the reign of Charlemagne over the “Holy Roman Empire” the Pfalz was his wine cellar, supplying not only the emperor’s table wines but the coronation wine as well. As one moves south along the “German Wine Route” through this veritable Garden of Eden, the number of castles increases and the landscape becomes more rugged and diverse. The region has always been considered the vegetable and fruit belt of Germany, which besides the influence of neighboring France, has led to its being the culinary capital of the country. There are various Michelin and Gault Millau rated restaurants and many other exciting surprises waiting for tourists to discover.

The Riesling grape predominates in some parts of the Pfalz, producing very big and powerful wines with flowery overtones. These wines often have a dry finish and are decidedly preferred by local restaurateurs, who serve them to great advantage with modern German cuisine. In other parts of the Pfalz, the clasical Burgundy family of grape varieties has been planted with great success. At the present time many younger wine-growers are focusing on the production of remarkably fruity Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) red wines. Dessert wines with great depth of character and nuances of exotic fruits are also characteristic of the Pfalz.

Riesling Are you a fan of Asian food? Then this off-dry Riesling will be a good choice for you! Low levels of alcohol and a hint of residual sugar make this wine a perfect partner for the delicate flavors and spiciness of the Asian cuisine. It is produced by the small family-winery Kimich in the beautiful wine-village of Deidesheim, located at the heart of the Palatinate wine-growing region. It is gene-rally agreed by all wine experts that the vineyards surrounding Deidesheim have some of the best Riesling-terroirs worldwide! This wine shows aromas of ripe fruit like sweet apricot, peach and red apple. You can also smell a hint of honey. In the mouth there is some sweetness, which is nicely balanced by a refreshing acidity.

Despite having one of the most modern set-ups in the region, the Kallstadt Cooperative remains true to its traditions, with a history dating back to 1902. Traditional craftsmanship together with innovative development characterizes the wines, which carry the insignia of the lion of Kallstadt. The soil of the vineyard site Kallstadter Steinacker is characterized by chalk and sandstone, yielding grapes that produce a fresh and crispy Riesling wine with aromas of green apples, citrus and some hints of white blossoms. On the palate, refreshing and easy to drink!

Around the turn of the 19th century the German wine Liebfraumilch was considered to be among the best wines of Europe. Many unscrupulous wine producers took advantage of this German wine’s popularity and produced poor quality wines ruining the reputation of the original Liebfraumilch product.

Christoph Hammel, a wine producer and enthusiast wishing to restore the “Liebfraumilch Icon” produces a high quality Liebfraumilch combining the traditional German grape varieties Müller-Thurgau, Scheurebe and Kerner. The result is a white wine cuvee that im-presses with typical and rich fruit aromas, a well-bal-anced, harmonious acidity and a complimentary, delicious sweetness.

The Diehl winery is located in the south of the Pfalz region. Wild sweet chestnut trees, normally only found in southern Europe, grow on the hills on the edge of the Pfalz Forest. Figs, kiwis, lemons, almonds and apricots all flourish on the eastern slopes, where they are protected from the wind. This area enjoys many days of sunshine, giving it and almost Mediterranean feeling. With their know-how, hard work and passion for wine the Diehl fa-mily is committed to producing top class wines. Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris/Pinot Grigio) is in essence a white variant of the red grape Pinot Noir. This Grauburgunder’s good palate weight and subtle varietal character makes it an excellent partner for seafood. Riesling How does it taste when the German grape Riesling is vinified at a Palatinate estate by a Japanese enologist? If you want to experience this intercultural exchange you should try this wine! It comes from the well-known wine-village of Deidesheim, where the winery Josef Biffar was founded in 1734. Since 2013 the estate with its beautiful buildings, has been in the care of Fumiko Tokuoka. Starting her career in wine research at renowned Geisenheim University, she has worked as an enologist for several German wineries for over two decades. At Deidesheim, she not only produces her own wines now, but also brings the culture of her native country to the region by opening the high end Japanese restaurant Fumi on location at the winery. Peach, apricot, citrus – these are the typical Riesling aromas you will find in this elegant wine. Its fruity character, soft residual sugar and fresh acidity make it a perfect partner to all light dishes such as fish or fresh vegetables. The winery is located in the idyllically Mediterra-nean wine hamlet called Duttweiler, which is in the heart of the winegrowing region of Pfalz. The win-ery was founded in 1838 and today the 5th genera-tion of the Nett family is continuing the tradition of wine production. The philosophy of the Nett family is to work with respect to nature. Their biggest challenge is to emphasize the potential and individ-uality of each vineyard in the estate. In their wine cellars, where tradition meets innovation in a har-monious and deliberate way, there is a sense of tranquility and of providing the wines the luxury of time. Christian Nett was awarded recognition as “the best young winemaker in Germany” in 2015 from the German Agricultural Association (DLG). This Chardonnay presents a nose of ripe yellow fruit aroma with a hint of pineapple at the finish. The palate is characterized by pear and apple - very juicy and creamy with a well balanced acidity.

Founded in the 1960’s by Edmund Lucas, the Lucashof winery also manages the vineyards of the nearby parish winery. Edmund’s son Klaus and his wife Christine carry on the family business and have even expanded it to a beautiful boutique hotel, with a newly renovated wine cellar and tasting room. The exceptional quality of the wines are proof of their efforts.

This youthful and fresh 2015 Weißburgunder pairs very well with seafood and poultry and is also an excellent companion to pasta with a creamy sauce. This wine is perfect for lovers of cool climate white wines searching for an alternative to Riesling: fresh, elegant, crispy, but with a moderate level of acidity.

Gewürztraminer wines have a distinctive, pronounced bouquet and flavor, often compared with heady tropical fruits or roses. Usually they are produced in a sweet style, but we have a dry version with intense aromas of lychees, passion fruit and a hint of floral notes.

dry Riesling Winery Georg Mosbacher is one of the oldest and most well known wineries of the renowned wine village Forst and has been known for high-quality wines since it’s foundation in 1920. Still in the family, the estate is today managed by Sabine Mosbacher-Duringer and her husband. They are dedicated to protect the excellent reputation of the winery by focusing on producing wine of top quality, year after year.

This 2015 Riesling was produced from a single vineyard called “Wachenheimer Altenburg”, which is located in the village of Wachenheim, a neighbor to Forst – a beautiful place to go for a leisurely stroll. From this east-facing slope, which is just next to the Palatinate Forest, you can enjoy a scenic view of the winegrowing region and you can stop to have a glass of this Riesling. Did you know that Germany is the largest producer of Pinot Blanc wines worldwide? The varietal originat-ed in France, where it was first discovered as a nat-ural mutation of Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. Under the synonym Weißer Burgunder it is now quite popular in Germany because of its delicate aromas and pleas-ant acidity. Known for reliable quality, the winery Wil-helmshof has been awarded the title of “Best German Winery of the Year” several times. Grown on the south-facing slopes of a single vineyard called Im Sonnenschein – literally translated “in the sun” – this Pinot Blanc displays aromas of pear, apple and ripe peach. It has a crisp acidity but is still full bodied with a long finish.

sweet Riesling An anecdote says that the famous German statesman Otto von Bismarck thoroughly enjoyed the wine from the Ungeheuer vineyards. The name Ungeheuger translates into English to a very big monster. Bismarck is reported to have said, “This monster tastes monstrously good”. Due to their location in the middle of a slope, the Ungeheuer vineyards are sheltered from winds and thus the grapes can ripen extremely well. The vines here usually flower earlier than those in other vineyard sites. This Riesling Auslese showcases aromas of lemon, pink grapefruit and honey. The fruitiness of the wine is completed by an harmonious mineral note. Enjoy this elegant, naturally sweet wine with fruit based desserts, crème brulée, or to celebrate a special occasion.

Martin and Georg Fusser have the great fortune to work in one of the most highly valued places for winegrowing on this planet, the vineyards surrounding the little town of Deidesheim. In 2006 the brothers were studying oenology together at the renowned Geisenheim University, when they made the decision to start their own business. Up to that point their parents had only been growing grapes and selling them to the local cooperative. But the young winemakers wanted to see their own name on the bottle and so they started to successfully vinify their first wines in 2007, with delicious results!

Pinot Noir, or Spätburgunder as we call it, is the most important German red grape variety. The 2014 vintage of this wine is young and fruity in style with aromas of red cherries, raspberries and the freshness of green pine needles, reminiscent of a walk in the woods. An elegant red wine that we would recommend to enjoy with pasta, poultry dishes or grilled vegetables.

“Being a good winemaker is not about doing a lot of things. It is about making the right decision at the right time”, says young winemaker Christian Nett. He is one of the rising stars in the Palatinate winegrowing area. Together with his close family and a team of motivated young professionals, he has led Berdolt-Reif & Nett from a small village winery with local customers to a nationally recognized winery featuring superior quality wines.

Our exclusive cuvée is a blend of five powerful red grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Mitos, Cabernet Cubin, Merlot and Lagrein. On its northerly flow from Basel, Switzerland to Rotterdam, Netherlands the Rhine is forced by local geology to make a bend westwards for 30 km (18.6 miles), from the city of Wiesbaden to the village of Lorschhausen. By doing so, the river has created the most perfect conditions for the vineyards of the Rheingau, well recognized by the Romans and the Cistercian monks who spread the culture of the vine to this enclave of Riesling viticulture. The best vineyards are on steep terraced slopes facing due south, protected from the north wind by the heavily forested Taunus hills, and from the east and west winds by the bends in the river. The Rhine, which is at its widest here, provides warmth to the vines by reflection during the day and by radiating back its stored warmth at night. Rheingau Rieslings have the customary virtues associated with German wines: fine balance, exquisitely defined fruit flavors, and stimulating acidity. They have more alcohol and fullness than those of the Mosel, but less than those of the Pfalz. Their unique quality is, however, their earthy character and herbaceous flavors. Rheingau wines have been imported into the United States since the days of Thomas Jefferson. During his term as ambassador to France Jefferson had several hundred bottles prepared for his personal cellar and shipped back to Virginia.
