THE TEXAS STAR CHART – AN INTRODUCTION
What is it? How is the data used? How can this information help me in my
classroom? What ratings did ECHS receive?
WHAT IS THE TEXAS STAR CHART?
WHAT IS THE STAR CHART?STaR stands for
School Technology and Readiness It is a tool that teachers may use to
self-assess their use of technology and analyze ways to improve their teaching in the 21st century.
It is aligned with the Long-Range Plan for Technology, 2006-2020.
WHAT IS THE STAR CHART? The Texas STaR Chart was developed
around the four key domains of the Texas Long-Range Plan for Technology, 2006-2020 Teaching and Learning Educator Preparation and Development Leadership, Administration, and
Instructional Support Infrastructure and Technology
To read the Long-Range Plan for Technology, 2006-2020, go to http://ritter.tea.state.tx.us/technology/lrpt/lrpt_lrpt.html
HOW IS THE DATA USED?
HOW IS THE DATA USED? To create and/or update the district’s technology plan. To set benchmarks and goals. To measure the use of technology by students and
teachers. By the campus and district to document progress
toward meeting No Child Left Behind, Title II, Part D requirements and document the use of funds.
To apply for grants. To determine funding priorities.

HOW CAN THE STAR CHART HELP YOU?
HOW CAN THIS HELP ME? The STaR Chart rates the use of
technology in four different ways for four different areas. Early Tech Developing Tech Advanced Tech Target Tech
Target Tech is the goal for each area
HOW CAN THIS HELP ME? As you complete the chart, you will see
where you fall on the chart Example: Consider your use of digital content
in the classroom. The Target Tech, or goal, is for you and your students to “have on demand access to all appropriate technology and digital resources anytime/anywhere for technology integrated curriculum activities on the campus, in the district, at home, or key locations in the community.”
Are you there yet? Only 0.9% of campuses in Texas are.
HOW CAN THIS HELP ME? Most likely you fall within one of the other
three categories. If you fall within “Developing Tech” you “have regular weekly access and use of technology and digital resources for curriculum activities in my classroom, library, or lab.”
By knowing where you are, and knowing the goal, you can proceed with a plan!
HOW CAN THIS HELP ME? Schools across the nation that have
implemented programs that make technology part of the everyday class experience have documented: Better Attendance More student interest Fewer behavior problems Higher test scores
