Coordinator Doyle "Skee Daddy" Dodson “All great change in America begins at the dinner table.” Ronald Reagan It seems a bit awkward for me to bring in the new 2012 chapter officers without properly thanking the “old” 2011 chapter officers that had stepped down. I think all of our 2011 chapter officers did an excellent job! They showed more leadership qualities and camaraderie this year than I can recall from recent memory. A big Thank You is due to all of our 2011 officers for a job well done! You guys & girls ROCK! I would especially like to thank Tim Walser for the excellent job that he did as our 2011 Chapter Coordinator. I personally think that Tim stepped down way too soon, but he promised me that he would continue to be a leader in our chapter—and I am confident that he will! Thanks Tim, and also thank you Kathy, for jobs well done! I joined ABATE in 1994 mainly because I felt like thousands of other bikers--that we shouldn’t have to wear a “skull cap” (helmet) if we didn’t want to—especially if the statistics were “skewed” and didn’t support the facts. Many of us believed back then, and still believe today, that if we don’t fight for our rights we may lose them. Sure, I keep renewing my membership in ABATE because I want to stay informed about legislative issues, to contribute my 2 cents worth, and to fight for our rights; However, I will be real honest with everyone, Tina (my gorgeous wife) & I keep renewing our membership in Texoma ABATE mainly because of YOU! An American poet once said, “…people will forget what you did, and people will forget what you said, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” I would like to sincerely thank everyone for the confidence that you have in me to serve as your 2012 Chapter Coordinator. It is a real privilege for me, and I promise that I will do my best. If you are not getting your money’s worth please let me know. Together we will “make it happen”. Thank you. Finally, Has everyone seen the 2012 calendar of events planned for our chapter this year? Wow! Talk about a full year--it is going to be great! Together we are going to have a productive and fun-filled year! Who remembers these lyrics to a Bob Marley song: “Get up, Stand up, Stand up for your rights! Get up, Stand up, Don’t give up the fight!” Skee Daddy

Asst Coordinator Scott "Bucket" Hall Thanks for the vote for the 2012 year. Seems I could make lots of promises, but we need the input from you the members. Present your ideas in writing, a mention only gets lost in the mind of day-to-day working. If they are on paper there is a good reminder through the year. I hope I live up to your expectations and working up the flyers for 2012. You have a list of upcoming events listed in the last month newsletter. I will be asking for run committee volunteers at the February meeting. Looking to stay in touch and have meetings with all you after the January meeting. The helmet law keeps coming up all around us. So if you want to ride free bring friends to the meetings and runs. Support your ABATE through the year. We have a lot planed this coming year so mark your calendar for all the events. Remember sign up new members and words are louder in numbers. 1 penny can make a difference but 100 pennies makes a lot. So the more of us as ABATE members the louder we speak…Buckett

Realizing that it will take more than just members of motorcycle clubs and riding associations for our voice to be heard the Coalition of Independent Riders, or The C.O.I.R., was formed and leaders chosen to be C.O.I.R. US Defenders. The C.O.I.R. is not a membership funded organization or club but a registration of independent riders from all walks and rides of the motorcycle community. Independent cruisers, sport and dirt-bike riders and even non-riders alike who understand that protecting our "Right to Ride" is everyone's responsibility. We must all do our part to keep motorcycling a true expression of freedom! When a Call-to-Action comes down the pike these independent riders will be contacted and asked to help implement the action whether it is a letter writing campaign or showing up at a state capitol. Independent riders who express a desire to help organize independent groups, attend US Defenders training and Call-to-Action seminars and get the word out to independent groups can register as COIR US Defenders and be assigned to the region where they live. The Coalition of Independent Riders is part of a grass roots movement that is sweeping the nation. There is a time for all motorcyclists to come together in solidarity and that time is now! Defending and protecting our Constitutional rights and our right to ride is all motorcyclists’ responsibility and I call on all of you to do your part. The COIR program was designed with the Independent spirit in mind and a way for independent riders to take their place in motorcycle history by standing up and doing their part. I want to personally thank all Independent Riders for their support and stay tuned for the opportunity to “stand up” and make a difference! US National C.O.I.R. Chapter Rep Jesse "lil Jesse" Elliott State meeting was postponed so take this opportunity to review the bylaws one last time, we vote on it at the next state meeting on March 3rd. Robin, Kaye, and myself attended the Oklahoma SMILE in OK City Jan 13-15th at the Biltmore Hotel. Saturday morning they had their State Board Meeting. Then our day began with ”Gaining and Retaining Your Chapter membership” with John Pierce, afterwards we had lunch with Lt Gov Todd lamb & DPS commissioner Col Michael Thompson. After lunch were several seminars to choose from, they were: “5 Steps to Freedom “/Rick Boland, “Share the Road Okla”/Sharon Stone-Husman & Laura Dods, “Chapter Rep Training”/Stick & Xman, “The 3 R’s”/Wayne Wierson, “Money, Photos, & Writing”/Barbara Vice, “Lies Damn Lies and Politics”/John Pierce, “”What We Are Now Is…”/ Tiger Mike Revere, and “ABATE of Okla Membership Roundtable” All were very informative. I highly recommend “The 3 R’s” with Wayne Wierson if you ever have the opportunity. We have the cd from this program available for a small donation to the MRF. We socialized for about an hour until the banquet, the food was fantastic. We partied and got razzed about being from Texas until the wee hours. Would like to thank Okla ABATE for their hospitality. Good times, good memories, & new brothers and sisters. Which brings me to the TALES in Tawakoni hosted by NET ABATE, if you have never been to an educational seminar you must come to this one. Since fighting for our rights is what ABATE is all about I challenge everyone to attend, and learn the proper ways and procedures to be sure your voice is heard. See you there, lil Jesse.

Stormy 2011 17th Annual For the Kids Toy Run, Big Kids Helping Little Kids From the office of: For The Kids Another great year, would like to think all that braved the weather rain and cold to bring a Merry Christmas to the kids in Grayson County through the Grayson County Salvation Army. Thanks to all that just dropped by with a donation food and toys. We are grateful you could come fourth and bring a big smile to kid in our area. Membership Dollie Graham Happy New Year Texoma ABATE, Dollie here, your Membership Officer for 2012. I welcome our new officers and returning officers and look forward to working with each to make 2012 a remarkable year for Texoma ABATE. In order to do this, it’s not just up to the officers. We need members and support. Your opinion and time is appreciated. You are valuable to this organization so please continue to help us do all we do for others and protect and fight for bikers rights. If you are reading this, you already know what we do and what we stand for, yet we can never do enough as we want to help more and make differences. We need more people who want to make these differences with us so please help me promote Texoma ABATE and bring a friend to an event. We have a few members who expired in December which I haven’t heard from and a lot expiring in January so please take a moment to renew or sign up a new friend. I will be sending out renewal slips in the mail but don’t have updated addresses for all as mails have come back with bad addresses so if you don’t receive a form in the mail please call, email or write. I can be reached at Dollie Graham 175 Sherman Drive, Pottsboro Texas 75076, 903-436-0157 or [email protected]. Thanks to those who have responded to my previous renewal letters. I hope this finds all well in the New Year and that all had a Happy Holidays. I’m excited for 2012 as I’m ready for fresh starts. 2011 was quite rough for our ABATE family. We watched our friend Kokomo struggling after his motorcycle accident the previous Christmas and we lost one of our most beloved and caring officers…a true friend to so many… Gena. We miss her a lot but know she’s watching over us and probably bitching at us when we slack up a bit. We also heard of or knew others who had wrecks and hardships. 2011 was a very tough year, but it also brought Joe and Crystal the new precious addition of “Wolffe”. He came a bit early but momma and baby as well as daddy Joe are all peaceful and well so that’s a blessing. Kokomo has finished his rehab and is at home doing well. He is bored and lost with suddenly being “retired” yet continues to be the strong caring man we all know. He overcame so much, and was blessed with his recovery. Last but not least, were the very tough months for “Buckett”. He went through his bone marrow transplant successfully, and is now our new Assistant Coordinator 2012 and in fact the one who inspired me to get involved in ABATE so again while 2011 had a lot of hardships, it also had many blessings for our organization as well as our own personal lives. Happy and Safe Riding !!! Dollie
