Established in 1959 at Mussoorie (now in Uttarakhand), the Lal Bahadur Shastri Natioademy of Administration (LBSNAA) is the apex training institution for probationary officers of the All India Services and Central Services (Group A). It provides professional training to regular recruits to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) as well as in-service training to middle/senior IAS officers and State Civil Service officers promoted to the IAS. It also conducts training of trainers in decentralized planning and training methodologies. The LBSNAA also offers customized research and training courses for non-governmental organizations, corporates, and governments in India and abroad.Aiming to produce a bureaucracy that commands respect through performance, not position, the LBSNAA endeavours to instil in its trainees empathy for the underprivileged; commitment to national integ-rity; concern for growth with equity and human well-being; integrity of character; respect for all castes, creeds, and religions; and professional competence of the highest order.A remarkable blend of academic rigour and intellectual liberty, the LBSNAA experience is a micro-cosm of the diversity of India, represented by people who are generations and geographies apart and people who have diverse qualifications and socio-educational backgrounds but come together to learn from each other and share a common vision for the nation.
