English 215 Paper Assignment Your English 215 paper is a short comparison paper that that looks specifically at one element of a story and how authors use that element to create specific responses from the reader. The idea is for you to develop a working understanding of how authors use particular tools to help readers more fully understand the experience of a piece of literature. For your paper you will choose two (or possibly three) of the pieces we study in class and compare the way different authors use one particular literary tool. For example you might look at two stories that are told from two different points of view and discuss carefully and thoroughly why it is important that one story is told from the first person point of view while the other is told from the third person omniscient point of view. You could also argue that a story might have been more effective told from another point of view. I am looking for your opinion, but it must be fully informed by evidence from the text. Your paper should be five full pages (that does not mean 4 ½), should have a thesis and should use clear evidence from the texts you choose. You should use MLA documentation, and include specific quotations from your texts. You do not need to use outside sources for this paper, but if you do they must be included in your list of works cited. Please feel free to see me if you need any help.
