University of Maryland, Baltimore County 1000 Hilltop Circle Baltimore, MD 21045 Bucknell Bison Opener Meet Preview: The UMBC men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams open their season at the Bucknell Bison Opener this Saturday. This meet has traditionally been an opportunity to see what the student-athletes have in preparations for the more intensive part of the season once they return from spring break. With a young team, there is much to be sorted o ut, and with the full team traveling, there is going to be plenty of action for UMBC track fans to take in. Keep an eye on the long sprinting events on the women’s side, as there should be a lot of fireworks and potential ECAC qualifying times the fi rst time out. Four-time America East Conference champion Amanda Deller will enter the circle with hopes of putting the Conference title out of reach the first meet out. Transfer Denny Long will look to return the UMBC sprint team back to dominance in the 60 meter dash. And a full slate of distance action will be on tap as the whole cross country and middle distance crew will toe the line. Amanda Deller: Junior All-Conference performer Amanda Deller returns, having never lost a shot put competition at an America East Conference Championships. Despite the success, new throws Coach, Pete Koumelis has higher expectations, “my hope is that we get closer to the fifty foot mark in the shot, and have her win the weight throw indoors.” Deller finished second behind new volunteer assistant coach Kadine Johnson. Meet Recap: The last event for the UMBC Cross Country/Track and Field teams was the NCAA Mid- Atlantic Cross Country Regionals at the University of Maryland  Eastern Shore. Leading the men was Brandan McGee who crossed the line in 64 th place with a 32:11.2. Todd Cowing set an All-Time Top 10 Performance, comple ting the 10k course in 32:42.7. Nic Escobar also competed setting a personal best 32:59.8 for the distance.
