Teknologiateollisuuden tilastollinen vuosikirja 2014

Tähän tilastolliseen vuosikirjaan on koottu perustiedot ja tärkeimmät teknologiateollisuutta koskevat tilastot vuodelta 2013 sekä sitä edeltäviltä vuosilta historiallisen taustan valottamiseksi. Tilastojen avulla esitellään teknologiateollisuuden vuositason suhdannekehitystä, tuotannon, henkilöstön ja ulkomaankaupan rakenteita, kannattavuutta, rahoitusasemaa sekä kansainvälistä vertailua.

Tietoa taulukoissa ja kuvaajissa käytetyistä tausta-aineistoista sekä toimialaluokituksista on taulukoiden alaviitteissä sekä vuosikirjan lopussa.

Suomen tärkein teollisuudenala ja kasvun veturi

Suomen kokonaistuotannon volyymi (reaalinen BKT) on 1900- ja 2000-luvuilla kasvanut teollisuuden vetämänä 28-kertaiseksi. Teknologiateollisuuden, Suomen merkittävimmän teollisuudenalan, tuotantomäärä on samana aikana kasvanut 180-kertaiseksi ja ollut ehdoton kasvun ajuri. Teknologiateollisuuden kehitys erkaantui koko teolli suuden kasvusta 1980-luvun alussa, jonka jälkeen alan tuotanto on kasvanut tuntuvasti nopeammin kuin teollisuuden kaskimäärin. Teknologiateollisuuden tuotannon ja Suomen hyvinvoinnin kasvu on perustunut erityisesti tuottavuuden kasvuun, joka on ollut kansainvälisestikin verraten nopeaa.

Teknologiateollisuus 2013

Teknologiatollisuuden yritysten tilanne heikkeni koko vuoden 2013 ajan

Teknologiateollisuuden liikevaihdossa ohitettiin talouskriisin synkin vaihe vuoden 2010 alussa. Sen jälkeen liikevaihto elpyi vuoden 2011 loppuun asti. Vuonna 2012 teknologiateollisuuden yritysten liikevaihto lähti kuitenkin uudestaan laskuun, erityisesti loppuvuosi oli alalle vaikea. Lasku jatkui myös koko vuoden 2013 ajan. Liikevaihto koko alalla laski noin viisi prosenttia vuonna 2013 ollen noin 65 miljardia euroa.

Teollisuuden rakennemuutos iski erittäin voimakkaasti teknologia-teollisuuden toimialalle vuonna 2012. Suomi menetti runsaasti suuren volyymin tuotantoa. Rakenteellinen muutos isossa mittakaavassa jatkui vuonna 2013. Yritystasolla tilanteet kuitenkin vaihtelevat merkittävästi. Koko alan kannalta tyypillistä on ennustehorisontin lyhyys ja epävarmuus tulevien kuukausien kehityksestä. Ennustetarkkuus on yhtä heikko sekä suurissa että pienemmissä yrityksissä. Globaali rakennemuutos merkitsee myös sitä, että suuret yritykset keskittävät hankintojaan aiempaa harvemmille alihankkijayrityksille. Tämä muutos koskee myös Suomea.

Teknologiateollisuuden yritysten henkilöstön määrä Suomessa laski vuonna 2013 verrattuna edelliseen vuoteen noin neljä prosenttia ollen n. 285 000. Tytäryrityksissä ulkomailla henkilöstön määrä laski vuoteen 2012 verrattuna noin viisi prosenttia ollen myös noin 285 000.

From these statistics you will get a clear picture of the technology industry annual development in output, personnel, foreign trade, profi tability, fi nancial position and international standing.

Prime Industry and Growth Driver

The Finnish total production (Real GDP), driven by the growth in manufacturing industry, has 28-fold during the 20th and the 21st century. The most important industry branch in Finland - the technology industry has grown its output volume 180-fold during the past 120 years driving the growth of the whole nation. It was in the early 1980s that the path of the technology industries diverged from that of the rest of the Finnish manufacturing industry. Since then, the output rates of the sector have exceeded the industrial averages by a high margin. The growth in the Finnish technology industry and the wealth of the nation has based largely on productivity growth which has been fast even on international standards.

Technology Industries in 2013

Year 2013 was very diffi cult for technology industries companies

The turnover of the technology industries started to rise from the deepest recession at the beginning of 2010. After that, turnover continued to recover to the end of year 2011. At the year 2012 turnover started to go down again. Especially end of the year 2012 were diffi cult for companies of technology industry. Turnover continued to fall whole year 2013. The turnover of the entire industry came down by an estimated fi ve per cent in 2013 to approximately EUR 65 billion.

Structural change in industry struck quite hardly to technology industry in year 2012. Finland lost quite a bit high volume production. Structural change continued in year 2013. However, the situation in individual companies varies to a considerable degree. The short length of the forecast horizon and the uncertain trend for the future months are typical for the entire sector. Forecast accuracy is equally poor in large and smaller companies alike. The global structural change also means that major companies centre their purchases on fewer subcontractors than before. This change also applies to Finland.

The number of employees in technology industries in Finland fell by 4 per cent in year 2013 when compared to previous year. The number of employees in Finland totalled 285 000. The number of employees in overseas subsidiaries fell about fi ve per cent in year 2013. In year 2013, the number of employees overseas totalled approximately 285,000.

Elektroniikka- ja sähköteollisuuden liikevaihdon reipas lasku jatkui

Elektroniikka- ja sähköteollisuuden (tietoliikennelaitteet, sähkökoneet, instrumentit) liikevaihto Suomessa supistui vuonna 2013 reilusti edellisvuotisesta ollen vajaa 16 miljardia euroa. Yritysten tavaravienti Suomesta oli euromääräisesti noin 12 prosenttia pienempi kuin vuonna 2012. Viennin väheneminen on koskenut lähes yksinomaan tietoliikennelaitteita. Elektroniikka- ja sähköteollisuudessa henkilöstön väheneminen Suomessa jatkui läpi vuoden 2013: henkilöstö väheni vuoden aikana kaikkiaan 12 prosenttia eli 5 600:lla ja oli 43 200.

Kone- ja metallituoteteollisuuden liikevaihto laski reilusti

Kone- ja metallituoteteollisuuden (koneet, metallituotteet, kulkuneuvot) liikevaihto Suomessa oli reilu 27 miljardia euroa vuonna 2013. Liikevaihto laski noin kuudella prosentilla edellisvuodesta. Yritysten tavaravienti Suomesta oli euromääräisesti 2,1 prosenttia pienempi kuin vuonna 2012. Kone- ja metallituoteteollisuudessa henkilöstön määrä laski Suomessa vuonna 2013: henkilöstön määrä laski vuoden aikana vajaalla 5 000:lla ja oli 125 500.

Metallien jalostuksen liikevaihdossa reilu pudotus

Metallien jalostusyritysten (terästuotteet, värimetallit, valut, metallimalmien louhinta) liikevaihto Suomessa oli 8,8 miljardia euroa vuonna 2013. Liikevaihto laski reilu 7 prosenttia edellisvuotisesta. Yritysten vienti Suomesta oli euromääräisesti 7 prosenttia pienempi kuin vuonna 2012. Metallien jalostuksessa henkilöstön määrä laski seitsemällä prosentilla edellisvuodesta ollen vuonna 2013 15 800.

Suunnittelu- ja konsulttialan liikevaihto ja henkilöstö kasvoivat

Suunnittelu- ja konsulttialan (teollisuuden, yhteiskunnan ja rakentamisen asiantuntijapalvelut) liikevaihto Suomessa oli reilu 5 miljardia euroa vuonna 2013. Liikevaihto kasvoi hiukan edellisvuotisesta. Suunnittelu- ja konsulttialan henkilöstö Suomessa kasvoi hiukan vuonna 2013 ja oli 46 300.

Tietotekniikka-alan voimakas kasvu jatkui

Tietotekniikka-alan (tietotekniikkapalvelut, ohjelmistot) yritysten liikevaihto Suomessa oli noin 8,3 miljardia euroa vuonna 2013. Liikevaihto kasvoi peräti 11 prosenttia edellisvuotisesta. Tietotekniikka-alan henkilöstö Suomessa kasvoi 600:lla vuonna 2013 ja oli 54 500.

Turnover of the electronics and electrotechnical continued to fall

The turnover of the electronics and electrotechnical industry (telecommunications equipment, electric equipment, instruments) in Finland fell in 2013 and amounted to approximately EUR 16 billion. Companies’ export of goods from Finland was 12 per cent lower in euros than in 2012. The reduction in exports has applied almost exclusively to telecommunications equipment. The reduction in the number of employees in the electronics and electrotechnical industry in Finland continued in 2013: during the year, the number of employees fell by 12 per cent, or 5,600, to 43,200.

Turnover of mechanical engineering fell

The turnover of the mechanical engineering (machinery, metal products, vehicles) in Finland was at roughly EUR 27 billion in 2013. The turnover decreased 6 per cent comparing to the previous year. Companies’ export of goods from Finland was 2.1 per cent lower in euros than in 2012. The number of employees in mechanical engineering in Finland fell in 2013: the number of employees fell during the year by just under 5,000 to 125,500.

Turnover of the metals industry fell

The turnover of the metals industry (steel products, non-ferrous metals, casting, mining of metal ores) in Finland stood at EUR 8,8 billion in 2013. The turnover fell by about 7 per cent comparing to the previous year. Companies’ export of goods from Finland was 7 per cent lower in euros than in 2012. The number of employees in the metals industry in Finland in 2013 fell by 7 per cents from the previous year being about 15,800.

Turnover and number of employees in the consulting engineering grew

The turnover of consulting engineering (expert services for industry, society and construction) in Finland amounted to just over EUR 5 billion in 2013. The turnover grew slightly from the previous year. The number of employees in consulting engineering in Finland in 2013 grew slightly to 46,300.

Strong growth continued in the information technology industries

The turnover of information technology companies (information technology services, software) in Finland totalled EUR 8,3 billion in 2013. The turnover grew by about 11 per cent on the previous year. The number of employees in information technology industries in Finland grew by 600 to 54,500 in 2013.

LuokituksetKaikki tämän tilastollisen vuosikirjan aikasarjat noudattavat TOL2008-luokitusta tai pohjautuvat TOL2008-luokituksen mukaiseen aineistoon. Tilastovuoden 2013 vuosikirjassa siirryttiin käyttämään kansantalouden tilinpidon luokkaa “S11 Yritykset + S14 Kotitaloudet” kuvattaessa kaikkea muuta paitsi koko kansantaloutta. Tästä seuraa pieniä muutoksia verrattuna edellisvuosien vuosikirjojen tietoihin. Suunnittelu- ja konsulttialan kohdalla luvut keskimäärin hiukan kasvavat, sillä alalla on paljon pieniä toiminimi yrityksiä, jotka kirjautuvat sektorille S14 Kotitaloudet. Lisäksi metallimalmien louhinta (TOL2008 07), luetaan kuuluvaksi metallien jalostukseen ja siten myös teknologiateollisuuteen. Aikasarjat on tältä osin korjattu vertailukelpoisiksi. Lisäk-si Kansantalouden tilinpito uudistui ja tästä syystä luvut muuttuivat jonkin verran aikaisempaan verrattuna. Suurin yksittäinen muutos oli T&K menojen lukeminen investoinneiksi eikä kuluiksi. Tästä seurasi Suomen BKT:n noin neljän prosenttiyksikön nousu. Teknologiateollisuudessa suurin vaikutus näkyi Elektroniikka- ja sähköteollisuudessa, jossa T&K investoinnit ovat olleet hyvin suuria.

Classifi cations

All time series in this statistical yearbook follow or are based on NACE2 (Statistical Classifi cation of Economic Activities in the European Community, Rev. 2) classifi cation or data that follows the NACE2 statistical classifi ca-tion. Statistical yearbook of 2013 started to use the national accounts category “S11 non-fi nancial corporations + S14 Households” to describe anything else but the level of the whole nation. Consequently there are minor changes compared to previous year books. In consulting engineering there is growth in numbers due to fact at branch has got many small business that is accounted to the sector S14 Households. In addition mining of metal ores (NACE2 07) is now part of metals industry. National accounts were also revised so fi gures can be different than in previous yearbooks.
