From MCA LeadershipDear Champion of the Arts,

It is with inspired energy that we request your support for our, Applaud the Arts, Ocala’s largest gathering of artists and art enthusiasts. Join us as we share the fantastic story of Ocala’s creative community in the newly restored and state-of-the-art historic venue, the Reilly Arts Center in Tuscawilla Park.

MCA began with Horse Fever in 2001 and has continued for 16 years, supporting every genre of local talent with public art, a gallery, advocacy, and funding including Cultural Grants totaling $285,000. Let’s keep the momentum going, and we can only do so with your help. We Applaud the Arts because...

and lateral thinking• art improves and inspires economic development, creates jobs

and produces tax revenue• art attracts tourism revenue• art is an experience fundamental to our humanity

Join artists, CEO’s, Entrepreneurs, elected officials, arts patrons, and non-profit leaders as we gather on Thursday, September 28 to applaud the visionary individuals and organizations who play such a vital role in the quality of life in Ocala/Marion County.

Arts & Economic Prosperity Study 5

Ocala was one of 341 communities taking part in this comprehensive study of the economic impact of the arts on a local level. Funding partners included the City of Ocala, the Appleton Museum of Art, College of Central Florida, Fine Arts for Ocala, and the Ocala Civic Theatre.

Findings are exciting and include: • Locally, the arts and culture industry had a

$56 million dollar impact• 14.3 million spending by arts and cultural

organizations• 41.6 million in spending by cultural

audiences• Generated 29.4 million in residential household

income• 1,422 in full time equivalent jobs• Generated 2.3 million in local government

revenue and 3.6 in state revenue

In Florida, the nonprofit arts and culture industrygenerated $3.1 billion in economic activity, including:

• Florida is home to 29,735 creative industries establishments

• Employees of these establishments receive more than $14 billion in annual payroll

• These establishments generate $49.7 billion in annual revenues

• These establishments represent 5.9% of all industry establishments in the state

• 88,236 full time equivalent jobs• $2.057 billion in resident household income• $196 million in local government revenue• $249 million in state government revenue

Nationally the industry generated $135.2 billion of economic activity—$63.8 billion by the nation’s nonprofit arts and culture organizations in addition to $102.5 billion in event-related expenditures by their audiences. This economic activity supports4.6 million full-time jobs and generates $96.07 billion in resident household income. Our industry also generates $27.5 billion in revenue to local, state, and federal governments every year—a yield well beyond their collective $4 billion in arts allocations. Despite the economic headwinds that our country faced in 2010, the results are impressive. (Source: Arts and Economic Prosperity V: Economic Impact of theNonprofit Arts and Cultural Industry)
