Mad About Science Incursion
During week 9, the Prep students participated in an incursion to deepen their knowledge of ‘Light and Sound’. They participated in hands on activities that allowed them to use their senses to focus on the following:
The differences between light waves and sound waves, as well as the concept of reflection and echoes.
Explore a range of optical instruments that use lenses and mirrors to change the path of light. Experiment with transferring and transforming vibrations
(sound energy).
Aarav, Prep E- My favourite part was when we used the glasses and could see all the colours of the rainbow. Noah, Prep E- My favourite part was when the scientist put the screw in the balloon and it made a loud sound. Milly, Prep E- I liked when the scientist put the solar panel near the sun and it made the fan work.
100 Days of School Celebration
100 days of school celebration will be held on Friday the 2nd of August. Students are encouraged to dress as if they are 100 years old. If you have any questions, please see your child’s classroom teacher.

Grade 5 Information Writing
In term 2 year 5 students worked hard to become experts on a chosen animal and their adaptations. Students researched, wrote, revised, edited and published information texts full of surprising facts. Did you know that a wolf's stomach is able to store up to 20 pounds of food or that the great white shark has 300 triangular teeth? Emily was surprised that Pandas have 5 fingers and 1 thumb. Can you believe that a jaguar only lives up to 15 years or that a clown fish has the ability to change from male to female? Have you ever heard that mountain lions can jump up to 5kms in the air or that gulp eels have an expansive stomach to eat prey bigger than them? These are just a sample of the surprising facts the clever students in 5C found out.
Open Classrooms & Maths Open Sessions
Parents are invited to come to their child(ren)s classroom on Thursday 1st August at 2:30pm to celebrate the amazing learning your child(ren) have been participating in. We would love for parents to stay on after open classrooms to learn math games that the children have been enjoying in class and are excited to share. The math open sessions will be held in the Gordon staffroom from 3:15- 4:15.
Crazy Hair/Hat Day
On Friday the 28th of June, the last day of Term 2, we held a Crazy hair/hat casual dress day. It was great to see the many talented students and parents of the Manor Lakes community. I saw rainbows, mohawks, colourful wigs, glitter, and hats and hair of all colours.
Change in Bus Service As part of bus service upgrades in Melbourne’s west, Route 191 - Werribee Station to Jubilee Estate via Greaves Street will be extended to Manor Lakes and Jubilee Estates.
This means instead of turning off Manor Lakes Boulevard at Minindee Road, it will continue on Manor Lakes Boulevard. Students from Manor Lakes College will be able to catch the service from Manor Lakes Boulevard. There will be bus stops on both sides of the road (the bus will not stop on Minindee Road) – see diagram attached. These changes will start from Sunday 28 July 2019.

Notifying the College of your Child’s Absence
If your child is sick or absent, you are required to notify the school as soon as possible on the day of absence, by calling 9741 4202 or entering the absence electronically via Compass. Notifying the school of your child’s absence either prior to, or on the day that they will be away, helps ensure the safety and well-being of children and will fulfill your legal responsibility. This system also promotes daily school attendance. Going to school every day is the single most important part of your child’s education, they learn new things every day – missing school puts them behind.
If you are concerned that your child is home for reasons not related to illness or family commitments, and you would like someone at the college to assist you, please do not hesitate to ring the college. The Manor Lakes College Attendance Policy which outlines the school’s processes and procedures for monitoring, recording and following-up of student absences is available on our website https://www.manorlakesp12.vic.edu.au/policies.
Updating Contact Details
There are times when we will need to contact you, including on the day your child is absent and you haven’t informed the school as to why. Do we have your most up to date contact details? If not, please update at the college office or email https://www.manorlakesp12.vic.edu.au/contact-the-college so we can update our records. Please include parent/carers’ name, address, phone numbers, email address and emergency contact details. Please remember to contact the school if any of these details or your circumstances change.
