TH E CU S TO MCO L L E C T I O N

At Gi b s o n’s Custom, Art & Historic Division a select group of artisans carry on the compa-n y’s century-old tradition of creating exquisite, investment-quality instruments. These guitarsboldly reflect the highest standards of imaginative design and masterful craftsmanship.

An instrument of timeless tonal qualities cannot be manufactured in a matter of hours ordays, or even weeks. An instrument intended to provide a generation of music must have afull season of growth in the hands of patient craftsmen. This is why a Gibson Cu s t o mDivision guitar is months in the making. Character building takes time.

The first and foremost component of a Gibson guitar is the wood. “To n e” woods are chosenfor their ability to produce and sustain tone. Only the finest hard maple, spruce, mahogany,ro s ewood and ebony is selected for tightness, consistency of grain and evenness of color.

Gibson Custom Shop instruments re c e i ve at least eight coats of hand-applied nitro c e l l u l o s el a c q u e r, painstakingly buffed to a high gloss finish. Gibson has been perfecting this pro c e s sfor over a century.

From the design of the electronics to the finishing of the frets, from the methodical handsanding and buffing through fifty separate quality control checks to the field-tested depend-ability of Gibson parts, Gibson Custom Shop guitars are a perfect balance of flexibility ands t a b i l i t y.

This tradition of excellence dwells in the soul of eve ry Gibson craftsman, and is translatedinto the character and tone of eve ry instrument produced. The craftsman may never meetthe playe r, but they know each other ve ry well. Neither is willing to compromise. Not now.Not eve r.
