Congratulations to Kerri Blackwell who has won the Principal’s position at Port Wakefield Primary School, beginning in 2018. We wish her all the very best!

“Sometimes, the benefit of a

dent in self-esteem is an

improvement in character“.

Wilson McCaskill

We acknowledge and respect the traditional custodians whose ancestral lands we are meeting upon. We acknowledge the deep feelings of attachment and relationship of Aboriginal people to country.

While researching information for new parents this week I found an interesting

article which revealed that international research shows:

The 2 key factors that underpin learning success in the first years of school and

beyond are self-regulation and language development.

Self-regulation enables a child to control inappropriate behaviour, to pay attention and to respond positively to changing circumstances.

Language development enables a child to listen, participate in conversations, interact socially with peers and grasp important information the teacher gives them.

If you are worried about your child in regard to either of these things please

make a time to discuss with your child’s teacher.

Reminder – children are given the opportunity to have a healthy snack during class time each day. Please only send fruit or vegetables for this time. It is also disappointing to see that many children do not have a water bottle at school. They have been given at least 2 water bottles since the beginning of the year from different sources. Please find a bottle that they can have at school all the time if possible.

Last Friday the Upper Primary Class

went to Master Mind in Wirrabara.

We sent 5 teams but unfortunately

no one came out winners. It was a bit

different than other years, but it had

its highlights. The team names were

Butcher Boys, Smarty Pants, Smooth

Squad, Karate Smarty and One Shot.

Some of the activities were word

search, crosswords, skits, bridge

building, tower making, balloon cars

and other word tasks. It was a good

day and we got to mingle with kids

from other schools. Congratulations

to St Joeys for having all 4 teams in

the top 4.
