THIS WEEK IN 7TH GRADE
English Language Arts/Reading Literacy
Bravo 7th graders for a wonderful performance of A Christmas Carol! It was an impressive collaboration of those who act and sing, those who are creative and artistic, those who are behind the scene helpers and those who stepped outside their comfort zones to try something new. I am so proud of you! A special thank
you to Mrs. Liuzzi for help with the background scenes, Mr. Wesley for help with the MTV commercial, and Mr. Martinez and crew for stage set up.
May you and your families have a joyful Christmas and “God Bless Us Everyone!”
REMINDER: Book Project Due January 19. See Edlio for details.

Thank you all for the very thoughtful birthday and Christmas greetings! May you all have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Please have your child check Sycamore for missing assignments. We will pick up with our unit on the Nervous System when we return.
Social Studies
This week we finished our group paper slide videos on the empires of western Africa - Ghana and Mali. Learners worked hard this week to complete the projects and record their videos. We will be watching our videos next week in class!
Next week we have two Social Studies assessments. Junior Scholastic is due on 12/13 with a quiz on the magazine schedule for that day. We will play Jeopardy on Wednesday and have our unit assessment on Thursday. Be sure to look out for the Jeopardy review game posted next week as the study guide.
Missing Assignments and Progress Reports in Social Studies I have sadly noticed a severe increase in missing work this trimester. I have let all learners know of missing assignments multiple times and have printed out grade reports for everyone. The school policy is to mark -1 on the merit card for EACH DAY late. I will be emailing home progress reports for Social Studies next week. Please check in with your learner to help them keep organized and on top of their work!
Junior Scholastic Magazine issues can be accessed on the ipad (magazines app) or online at juniorscholastic.com. Our classroom code is 7thgradenews all one word (7th grade News)
Mathematics
In Algebra 1A we will continue our unit on functions, focusing on linear functions in particular. In Pre-Algebra we will continue rational number operations in the context of Geometry and area formulas.
As a reminder I have open office hours Monday-Wednesday from 3:15-4:15 to re-explain, tutor, provide extra practice for any and all students at no charge. In particular I am focusing on Algebra 1A on Monday afternoons beginning. If you feel your
learner would benefit from more instruction and practice solving equations and inequalities, please mark Monday afternoons in your calendar. The Monday afternoon sessions will start from the beginning of the material and move forward with the fundamentals of solving equations and inequalities.
Spanish ¡Feliz Navidad y Prospero Año Nuevo!
Makerspace The seventh graders have learned how to use Newsela, a website that allows students to read articles at their own lexile level, to read an article about ocean pollution, in conjunction with their Baby Beach research. Using the notes that they took from the article, the students then used an app that they were unfamiliar with the create a presentation of the information they learned about. The projects will be presented to the classmates on 12/14.
Art
7th grade has been busy preparing for their production of “ The Christmas Carol” The learners have spent the last two weeks designing the decorations for the show. It was a complete team effort. From the sketching to the decisions about medium. Medium used was paint, chalk pastel, and pure creativity. The learmers embraced their true talents in the creation of the backdrops. Hope you all enjoy the play!
