News and Media Thai SOLT II Objectives Module 9 Lesson 1 At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to report information from the news media. Under this Terminal Learning Objective, the students will be able to: 1. Discuss the news broadcast. This task will include:

• Discuss the articles from different types of news media and propaganda • Interpret news broadcast

2. Extract information from news media. This task will include:

• Discuss influence of the news media on the TR population • Talk about famous people and events • Discuss economic changes

News and Media Thai SOLT II Introduction Module 9 Lesson 1 Tip of the Day Radio and Television AM radio is heavily commercial – there are some 200 stations nation-wide and appeals to popular taste. FM radio offers popular music, classical music, jazz, English-language news broadcasts and the original soundtracks of certain imported film shows shown on local television’s five channels. Leading hotels have color televisions in each room, offering video features, satellite and/or cable television or tourism-related English language programs. Check out the following English radio and TV stations:

• Thaicast - Internet TV and radio broadcasting • You & I Corporation Co., Ltd. - operates 95.5 FMX, Smooth 105 FM, and Eazy

FM 105.5 • FM 100.5 - Mass Communication Organization of Thailand (MCOT) • FM 96 • Radio Thailand

The BBC Thai Service provides a five-minute summary of international news from London to MCOT's national network Monday-Friday between 18:40-18:45 (local time). And a 20-minute world news roundup for MCOT's listeners in the Greater Bangkok area every Sunday on FM100.5 at 21:10 hours.

Famous event: H.M. the King's Birthday December 5, National holiday. On December 3, the elite Royal Guards swear anew their allegiance to His Majesty King Bhumibol in a colorful and stirring ceremony in Bangkok's Royal Plaza.
