Our new “virtual reality” …

As with nearly everyone in this adjusted environment of late, the Chamber has had to pivot our thinking and approach to fundraising, events, and programs. Our new reality includes virtual Zoom presentations, online meetings, smaller events with COVID-19 guidelines – and yet, a renewed appreciation for the individuals and businesses in our area. While businesses have been adjusting to their own new realities, they have been incredibly supportive of Chamber programs and the associated fund-raising that allows us to assist with business support and development.

As we move forward, many of our events will, or have been re-designed to virtual formats. Our major fund-raisers, including the annual Coldwell Banker Plourde Super Raffle, our Annual Awards Ceremony, and Business to Business Showcase will still be held, albeit in varying degrees of virtual formats. Our largest event of the year, the Taste of Waterville is still in the discussion process for creative ideas on how to proceed.

What all of this means is that your Chamber continues to move forward with our goals for growing business in the area, with innovative uses of streaming capabilities,

virtual workshops and events, social media marketing – all the tools at our disposal. We will also continue to ask for your support through Chamber memberships, event sponsorships, and sharing of your ideas.

As we move toward Fall and the inevitable budgeting and planning season, I would love to meet with you to discuss how we can work together and look forward to next year – when all of our realities are more grounded, more positive, and filled with hope for getting back to our norm and our pre-COVID realities. The Chamber has many annual sponsorship opportunities that provide valuable branding, networking, and financial support to the area. When you are ready to look forward, please include the Chamber in your planning – the reality is – we are all in this together. And, when we work together, everyone wins.

Best,Cindy

“KV Connect set a goal to raise $500 in 5 Days for United Way of Mid-Maine’s

Community First Fund. The group exceeded its goal and raised $740.

The group traditionally hosts Waterville Green Drinks the second Tuesday of each

month to raise money for local non-profits while networking with other young professionals in the area. Since COVID-19 swept in events have had to be canceled, but community needs continued to grow.

KV Connect decided to pool its resources to rise to the occasion and continue to support

its community.”

Perfect Attendance at the Albert S. Hall School

Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce presented 14 fourth and fifth-grade students with awards for achieving perfect attendance at Albert S. Hall School for the 2019-2020 school year. Due to the pandemic and the move to remote learning for the last part of the school year, there was no assembly held. However, all students receiving awards had their picture taken with Chamber President & CEO Kimberly N. Lindlof and received certificates and gift bags in recognition of their achievement.

To attain perfect attendance each student must not be tardy, have no unexcused or excused absences, and not have early release. The students with perfect attendance for the 2019-2020 school year were: Ilya Ansdell, Theresa Bickford, Kaleb Crocker, Kaedon Finch, Ava Fortuna, Lillian Gordon, Riviera Hernandez, Josephine Ker, Nivaeh Libby, Kiera McNeill, Reid Morrison, Minako Peck, Forrest Poulin and Hailey Snipe. All first-time winners were given gift bags containing certificates from local businesses plus a Kindle Fire.

Fifth-graders Ilya Ansdell, Theresa Bickford, Ava Fortuna and Forrest Poulin achieved perfect attendance for two years in a row. In

addition to a gift bag, each of these students were given a week at summer camp at Alfond Youth Center’s Camp Tracy.

Financial contributions to support this

program were provided by Bangor Savings Bank, Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce and Waterville Rotary Club, as well as certificate donations from Alfond Youth & Community Center.

Snow Pond is a wonderful example of how so many nonprofits have pivoted business models during this challenging time. Snow Pond Center for the Arts, located at 8 Goldenrod Lane in Sidney moved quickly when it realized that for the first time in its 84 year history, New England Music Camp, Snow Pond’s core program, was not able to host students from all over the world for its renowned summer-long music camp.

Snow Pond opened a restaurant take-out service with a spin to support community organizations. Snow Pond’s Lodge Restaurant began in March with a Buy A Meal - Give A Meal program, which continues today, and thus far over 600 meals have been given to area organizations like the South End Teen Center in Waterville, the Boys and Girls Club of Augusta, and the Sidney food bank.

Based on the incredible response to its take-out offerings, Snow Pond pushed further and

opened The Lodge Restaurant, which now offers spacious outdoor seating overlooking Messalonskee Lake. Dine-in, take-out and dockside service will be available all summer. The culinary team’s menu, led by Snow Pond’s Executive Chef Tim, is based on a farm-to-table philosophy. The team has been working closely with many of the area farms in Central Maine to build a repertoire of simple cooking that lets the true flavors of every dish shine through. As the only restaurant that offers dockside service on Messalonskee Lake - to say this is now the hottest restaurant in town is an understatement. In addition, while guests are waiting for their table or if they would like to enjoy a post-dinner cocktail, they may also visit Snow Pond’s new outdoor rooftop Tiki Bar. The Lodge Restaurant is open Wednesday–Saturday from 5:00–9:00 p.m. Residents and visitors to Maine can make reservations and order takeout or dockside service by contacting The Lodge Restaurant directly at 207-465-9648.

“We are excited we were able to quickly build a restaurant that is receiving such rave reviews. As an arts organization, adding the culinary arts has always been in our plan. The only silver lining this year is that we were able to put this piece into place sooner than expected. It takes an incredible team to run an excellent restaurant, and we are confident that all our guests will love what we bring to the table,“ commented Christa Johnson, Snow Pond’s Director of Development.
