The History of Music

Written by: Angelina Allie

Music, consequently, may have been in

existence for at least 50,000 years and the first music

may have been invented in Africa and then evolved to

become a fundamental constituent of human life, but

we are still unsure. Many people love music for either

regular, everyday reasons, or for more personal

reasons. Some examples of regular, everyday reasons

can be the type of music, the beat of the music, or just

the music in general. Some more personal reasons

could be the lyrics, or the story behind the song.

There are many different types of music in the

world ranging from happy, energetic music that’ll get

your heart racing, to sad, slow music that will really

help you relax with a story put into musical notes. The

next genres of music are the top 10 most popular

types of music. The list is from www.thetoptens.com.

1. Rock ‘n roll

It wasn’t until 1951 that Alan Freed coined the

term rock ‘n roll. Freed was a disc jockey from

Cleveland, Ohio, on WJW. although the term

was referenced in songs from the 1940s,

Freed used the term to talk about the genre

of music.

2. Pop

A term that originally derives from an

abbreviation of “popular”. The genre popular

music originated in its modern form in the

1950s, deriving from rock and roll. The term

“pop song” is first recorded as being used in

1926. According to Grove Music Online, the

term “pop music” originated in Britain in the

mid-1950s as a description for rock and roll

and the new youth music styles that it

influenced.

3. Rap

It was called “rap”, expanding the world’s

earlier meaning in the African-American

community- “To discuss or debate informally.”

one of the first rappers at the beginning of the

hip hop period, at the end of the 1970s was

also hip hop’s first DJ, DJ Kool Herc.

4. Heavy metal

The specific influence on heavy metal by hard

rock bands and artists such as Kinks, Led

Zeppelin, and Jimi Hendrix. The historical and

social context of Birmingham, England, during

the late 1960s and early 1970s.

5. Country

Country music, also known as Country and

western (Or simply Country), and hillbilly

music, is a genre of popular music that

originated in the southern United States in

the early 1920s. It takes its roots from genres

such as folk music (especially Appalachian folk

and western music) and blues.

6. Punk

Rooted in the 1960s garage rock and other

forms of what is now known as “Proto-Punk”

music, Punk rock bands rejected perceived

excesses of mainstream 1970s rock. Between

1974 and 1976 the movement now bearing

the name “punk-rock” emerged.

7. R & B

The “Rhythm & Blues” term was created to

replace the designation “Race music,” which

until then was the standard catch-all phrase

used in reference to most music made by

blacks at the time. After the “Race music”

term was deemed offensive, Billboard began

using the Rhythm & Blues name that Wexler

created.

8. Jazz

Jazz is a music genre that originated in the

African-American communities of New

Orleans, United States, in the late 19th and

early 20th centuries, and developed from

roots in Blues and Ragtime. Since the 1920’s

Jazz age, Jazz has become recognized as a

major form of musical expression.

9. Classical

The major time divisions of Classical music up

to 1900 are the Early music period, which

includes Medieval (500-1400) and

Renaissance (1400-1600) eras, and the

common practice period, which includes the

Baroque (1600-1750), classical (1750-1820),

and Romantic (1810-1910) eras.

10. Alternative rock

The name “Alternative rock” essentially serves

as an umbrella term for underground music

that has emerged in the wake of punk rock

since the mid-1980s. This approach to lyrics

developed as a reflection of the social and

economic strains in the United States and the

United Kingdom of the 1980s and early 1990s.

This completes the article I have

decided to write based on the top ten genres

of music and their history behind them. Again,

this is Angelina Allie from the Rolland Warner

Newspaper Club, signing off, ready to write

again for the staff and students of Rolland

Warner.

The odds of online classes  Chris Heaton

Something new is online classes. Since

technology is quickly growing, people began to realize that it would be a great idea to have online classes. Please note that this article is meant just to show odd things that people would notice and know it’s odd, and this is not meant to offend anybody.

Something extremely obvious is the strange fact that Google Classroom is a new virtual class that is now extremely common in schools. Yes, Google Classroom has its outs and ins, but the “in” part is that it is very useful for class projects, but surprisingly it has its odds. One of them is the fact that you can add a “co-teacher”. In schools there really is no co-teachers, there may be a vice principal, but other than that there are no co-teachers.

Another extremely odd online Google Classroom feature is that once you turn in a paper, you can’t edit that paper again. In an online classroom, you can leave it and then you really can’t join again. If you leave the online classroom, you lose your papers unless they are given back to you. If you lose your papers forever, that means you won’t see it again. And if you don’t see it ever again, you might have important things on that paper. One thing Google Classroom needs is a way that you can still read and edit your paper while it’s in the classroom.

The last odd thing about online classes is an online gym class. People that have never heard of this are always shocked at first. Can you imagine doing burpees in a computer lab? Yeah, that could damage the computers. Technology is also the enemy of fitness because it turns people into couch potatoes. Don’t worry though, they actually are pretty good. According to internet research, people in an online gym class learn about how to keep in better health. An online gym class isn’t bad, it’s just questionable for some people.

You shouldn’t make fun of people with online classes. Internet research shows online classes are becoming very popular. Just because someone has an online class doesn’t mean you should make fun of them.
