PV³, the Turn- Machining Center of the FutureIn design size ø 630 / ø 1250 / ø 1600PV3 combines different technologies such as turning, drilling, thread cutting, milling, groove milling or grinding and gear tooth forming as well as hard turning and grinding including the integrated quality assurance in a monitored process in a single machine. Unique and partially patented tool holders allow this high application flexibility in the workpiece diameter range between 500 and 5,000 mm.

Tradition obliges. In recent years PITTLER T&S GmbH has developed the PV production series step-by-step into a turning center. Therefore, the company now covers a wide range of highly effi cient complete manufacturing technologies in all common workpiece sizes. With the most modern machine construction technology as well as the latest drive and control technology, today PITTLER convinces its customers in the application range between 50 mm and 1,600mm with regard to the workpiece outer diameter.
Core of the innovation are tool holder systems for complete machining which, in the unfinished (soft) workpiece state, by applying the technologies of turning, milling, drilling, thread cutting, reaming, milling of fi tting grooves, grinding and gear tooth forming, achieve highest cost effi ciency and improved workpiece quality. In this way, the conventional vertical lathe has changed into a high-value turning center.
With the new PV generation, PITTLER has also captured the fi eld of hard machining and also partially substituted grinding processes. Countless applications in the area of toothed workpieces as well as the rolling bearing manufacture have been handed over to the production of our customers. Apart from hard turning, the aforementioned groove machining in the hard state which is performed by means of fi ne milling or HGW grinding, has been implemented.

Also for small dimensionsIn particular for the machining of small-sized workpieces with a diameter of up to 400mm, the vertical spindle hanging down from above, in combination with the pick up loading and unloading principle, has gained broad acceptance. However, there are applications where excellent results are achieved by the advantages of the vertical, standing main spindle as described overleaf. These applications, for example, comprise thin walled high-precision parts which are likely to deform due to the clamping pressu-re. In such cases, the use of the programmable clamping pressure reduction (by opening – closing the collet chuck) prevents deformations caused by the clamping pressure. Also for noncircular workpieces which are difficult to clamp (e.g. wheel carriers, knuckles); due to the gravitational force, the upright positioning of these workpieces onto three standing axial locations is easily realized.
Or for large dimensionsIt goes without saying that the aforementioned advantages of vertical machining become particularly obvious in machines of the sizes PV3 630 to PV3 1600. The combi-nation with tool holders for driven tools for the complete machining allows the appli-cation of almost all machining technologies and therefore constitutes a turning center. If r quired, a modular Y-axis is optionally available, thus completing the turning center to a high-value 5-axis turning center. The economic benefit for the user is derived from the possibility of performing complete machining operations in one machine. Thus, neither the transport of the workpieces to other machines nor their loading is necessa-ry. In view of the size and weight of the workpieces, this advantage offers particular economic benefit.
A considerably easier and quicker retrofitting procedure, in particular during the ma-chining of low volume production series, can be ensured for a chuck which is located directly in front of the operator.
