Welcome!Blue Mountain Community College welcomes you to the Parade

of Graduates for the Class of 2020. Due to restrictions surrounding COVID-19, BMCC is unable to host its traditional commencement

ceremony to honor graduates. However, BMCC is committed to celebrating the outstanding achievements of our graduates despite COVID-19, and so the College is excited to host a re-imagined

commencement ceremony with the Parade of Graduates. Thank you for supporting these students as they celebrate this well-earned milestone!

High Honors 3.85 – 4.00 GPA (two cords)

Red, White and Blue cords signify that the student is a Veteran

Red & Blue cords signify membership in BMCC’s Associated Student Government

Commencement RegaliaThe first academic gowns and hoods provided warmth in the unheated buildings of 12th and 13th century Europe. The mortarboard became common in the 14th century, though some universities adopted a soft cap or other covering. In 1895, American universities adopted a formal standard that has remained virtually unchanged to this day.

A bachelor’s gown has pointed sleeves. A master’s gown has long closed sleeves with the opening at the wrist. A doctor’s gown has bell-shaped sleeves and velvet decoration. The colors of the hood lining signify the institution conferring the degree of the wearer, and the trim colors signify the degree discipline.

The first BMCC Commencement Ceremony took place in 1963 and honored 39 graduates.

Today we honor 335 graduates ranging in age from 17-63. These graduates come to us from Oregon, Idaho, and Washington. 114 students are graduating with honors/high honors, and 7 are veterans. 22 local high school students will have completed an Associate of Arts

Oregon Transfer degree by the end of Summer Term 2020.

AcknowledgementsThank you to friends and family for giving these graduates your support!

This commencement is made possible because of the generous contributions of time and effort given by students, staff and faculty members of Blue Mountain Community College and the community.

Special thanks to Elkhorn Media and KUMA 95.6fm and 1290am radio for live broadcasting tonight’s celebration, to the Pendleton Police Department, and to Charles Wood III for his performances this evening.
