There is a fear that is righteous:

The fear (awe, respect) of God is the beginning of

wisdom (Prov. 9:10)

But I John 4 reminds us that

the cross has transformed that

fear into “agape” love

Our relationship with God is no longer based on a fear of

punishment but on the Spirit within

that reminds us that we have been

redeemed by God’s love

The fears that remain are

residual effects of our sin leading to

self-induced misery; worry, apprehension,

horror, or consternation

These fears undercut our ability

to love and lead to an avoidance

of issues, paralysis of

the will, loss of focus, purpose, and

reason

When negative, irrational

fears control our relationship
