Presentations

Quite simply put, few conferences have ever been able to bring together the names that will be sharing the stage for this panel; and with a line-up that includes Steven Miranda (SVP of Applications Development for Oracle), Mike Capone (CIO for ADP), Sanjay Poonen (President of Global Solutions for SAP), John Wookey (EVP of Social Applications for Salesforce.com), Stan Swete (CTO for Workday), and Adam Rogers (CTO for Ultimate Software), you can see why. How then, do you keep the egos in check and the message on point for the audience? By bringing in the only person that could possibly moderate this band of misfits—Naomi Lee Bloom. Expect to hear how the industry’s leading companies are approaching the SaaS application evolution; what Naomi thinks is important for prospective buyers to know; and why the future for HR software is clearly in the clouds.

Sessions

Moderated by the father of HR Metrics Dr. Jac Fitz-enz, this panel features some of the heaviest hitters in the human capital analytics world. Other than Jac, you’ve got Dr. Laurie Bassi (CEO of McBassi & Company), Dr. John R. Mattox II (Director of Research for KnowledgeAdvisors), Eugene Burke (Chief Science & Analytics Officer for SHL), and Natalie Tarnopolsky (SVP of Analytics and Insights for Wells Fargo Bank)—all on hand to discuss predictive analytics in the context of performance management, engagement, and retention. This will be a deep discussion for sure, but don’t let the panelists’ pedigrees make you think it’s above your head. Dr. Fitz-enz has made a career out of making this topic approachable, and we look to see that here.

Identified by Human Resource Executive magazine as the world’s “Most Powerful HR Technology Experts”, Josh Bersin, Thomas Otter, Jason Averbook, Naomi Bloom, and Lisa Rowan will all be hosting what’s being called “unconference” sessions throughout the HR Tech event. Part group discussion, part guru wisdom, and all interesting, these sessions will be participation-driven and revolve around issues such as Mobile, Big Data, Software Deployment, Software Upgrades/Replacements, Talent Management, and Social—basically all the major topics that are in serious need of expert coverage at this time. Luckily, these unconference conversations don’t all happen at once, and each is interspersed throughout Monday and Tuesday.

Keynotes “Rethinking The Cloud in Human Terms” will be led by none other than the prolific Tom Koulopoulos (President and Co-Founder of the Delphi Group); recognized as one of the world’s top 6 most influential consultants by InformationWeek. While keynote speakers can often struggle with conveying a weighty topic like this one in such a short amount of time, you can be sure that Tom will be hitting all the necessary points for employers. That said, while HR and IT practitioners might find the speech interesting, the real audience for Tom is going to be the CEOs.

“What a President Wants from You and Why” will be delivered by the venerable Marc Hurd of Oracle fame. This is the first time in the history of the HR Tech Conference that a powerhouse like this will be delivering a keynote, but what’s even more interesting is that he’s first thing in the morning for a slot that’s less than an hour. It could be that scheduling difficulties with the just-hosted Oracle OpenWorld are at play, but regardless that’s an odd slot. Expect to hear a lot of Oracle marketing, but thankfully conference co-chair Bill Kutik will be on hand for some much-needed topic-wrangling and Q & A.

The final keynote of the conference (“How HR Can Drive the New Social Business”) will be delivered by best-selling author Marcia Conner; and of all three promises to be the most widely-useful. Specifically, Marcia will be discussing social media and the role that HR has in driving adoption. While many speakers can speak esoterically about a topic, Marcia has been on the front lines of getting HR to the social media table in some of the world’s largest companies—a feat that not only informs her presentation style, but also provides the audience with some powerful and unique takeaways that aren’t always present at a presentation of this level.

HRevolution Co-located with the HR Technology Conference is the 3rd-annual HRevolution “unconference”. This event has been built to develop networks (both personally and professionally); provide an open space to converse about issues specific to your organization; and come away with workable solutions—in essence, filling in the gaps that the conference itself is missing. And while it might seem odd to have one of these happenings partnered with the main event conference, the fact of the matter is that for 3 years running this meet-up, as the founders put it, “has been creating unique opportunities for HR professionals, recruiters, consultants and vendors”.

The CandEs Celebrating their second annual appearance at the conference will be the Candidate Experience Awards (or CandEs for short). Led by Elaine Orler (Co-Founder & President of Talent Function), Gerry Crispin (Co-Founder of CareerXroads), and Ed Newman (former Newman Group CEO and inside TMT blogger), the CandEs is an awards ceremony unlike any other in that its focus is on selecting the top companies out there to APPLY to! Based on over 10K candidate surveys, 25 companies received awards last year with PepsiCo, State Farm Insurance, and three others taking home to the top “with distinction” honor. Your company might be great to work for, but how are you doing with regard to candidates. Find out at the show!

Entertainment Of course no conference worth its salt is going to put on a show without having some grand après-event happenings too; and this year’s HR Tech show doesn’t disappoint in that department either! On Sunday night, look for the KPMG-sponsored Connection Reception where networking galore will be possible. Monday during the day (at the Top HR Products of 2012 Awards Luncheon), "Solo Artist of the Year" Mike Rayburn will perform has blended music/inspiration act; and also on Monday night, SAP and SuccessFactors are putting on an evening of entertainment at the House of Blues. It’s gonna be a good time for sure.
