The Future of Energy & the Energy of the Future?
The 2nd Gulf IntelligenceSaudi Arabia Energy Forum
The 2nd Gulf IntelligenceSaudi Arabia Energy Forum
A new era of disruptive bionic transformation is upon us where the energy industry is putting more focus on research, innovation and investment in technology in search of sustainable ways to operate and automate operations. Game-changing technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), virtual reality, FinTech, blockchain and machine learning are revolutionary tech tools reshaping global commerce and customer experience across all sectors are garnering government backing from countries across the Middle East.
The urgency to limit climate change and achieve sustainable growth is affirming the momentum of global energy transformation. Companies are working alongside governments globally to build a roadmap to tackle carbon emissions. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as a global energy producer has recognized its pivotal role in finding solutions through innovation and collaboration to create a sustainable framework of growth. HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Energy stated that the Kingdom is “seeking to develop a system where carbon emissions are reduced, reused, recycled and removed to be used in other economically viable ventures to boost the economy”. The kingdom will develop a “closed loop system”, which will help restore carbon balance and contribute to global economic growth in a sustainable manner.
Innovative and digital tools enhance the real-time element of operations and communications and can be leveraged to cater to global decarbonization and climate change considerations. Staying sharp in this environment – especially amid lower oil prices and lower-carbon targets – are key elements for growth. Should the Kingdom’s energy sector focus on one technology more than another? Is innovation being fully appreciated? What steps should the Kingdom prepare to take next and what does the future hold for the future of energy and the energy of the future?
