PRESIDENT’S PEN:
Here we are again with
another year behind us. With a
new year ahead I can’t help but
wonder what opportunities are
in store for us all. It’s an
exciting thing to know that the
Lord has a work for us to do,
for His glory, not our credit.
Sadly, I’m seeing a decline in
those willing to do anything for
the Lord. The trend isn’t new;
it’s something that we’ve all
seen for some time now.
Churches are not having the
“Gospel singings” that we used
to have. For whatever reasons,
nobody wants to be troubled
with that “burden” anymore.
The ones that did, have passed
on. Attendance is down
significantly everywhere you
turn. This unfortunately
includes BAGMA.
Some of our own
membership has the idea that
BAGMA is here to serve them.
Folks, if you are a member of
BAGMA, you are BAGMA.
Jesus Christ came to serve, not
be served. Why do people have
a hard time grasping that? Why
do we feel we are above Christ?
My personal belief and
observation is that many of us
for whatever reasons have
allowed ourselves to become
our own church. By that I mean
we are not being properly fed
by God’s word because we have
filled our schedules with
everything else. In some cases,
we have stopped going to
church all together. By that I
mean the assembly of believers
that God commanded us to
fellowship with.
We can do nothing on our
own. So when we start taking
shortcuts in our Christian walk,
well, I’ll just quote a famous
TV personality. “How’s that
working out for you?”
For me, life as a Christian is
the hardest thing I’ve ever done.
It’s my desire to be the best I
can be for the Lord. And He
knows if I’ve given my best.
I’m not saying that you have
to be a part of BAGMA or
anything else to get to heaven. I
am saying that if you are a
“whosoever” in John 3:16, you
will want to serve being led of
the Holy Spirit.
Let’s regain the zeal we’ve
lost. Let’s go out ready to serve.
That’s all He asked.
Keep looking up,
Bro. Ray

Just My Thoughts
As I look back over the past
year, and even prior years, I am
saddened. We have lost many
of our dear friends. Some were
lost through death, some have
moved from the area, and others
through health issues and other
reasons. There are many
reasons for the sadness but my
heart is heavy because I look
around and wonder, where are
our current members when it is
time for the monthly meetings,
where are our members when
the Spring Convention comes
around, why do our members
not respond when we ask for
their help? We have tried many
things to get interest up but no
one seems to truly care. There
doesn’t seem to be any passion.
We thought it would be nice to
feature our members in the
newsletter – but response was
low. We thought it would be
nice to feature people (members
and their family members) who
serve or have served our
country in some way – an even
smaller response. We ask for
volunteers from time to time –
little to no response. It breaks
my heart to see people show up
a few minutes before they are
scheduled to sing at the
convention and then when they
have completed their 15
minutes they walk off the stage
straight to their vehicles and
leave. I realize we are all busy
with our personal lives but can
we not spare some time to
support our fellow singers at
least one time a year? We ask
you to contact the ones who do
the scheduling so you can sing
at a meeting, showcase, or the
convention – a few respond.
Most of us who represent the
leadership team have jobs so if
each of you could do your part
to take some of the load off it
would be a big help and greatly
appreciated. It seems we keep
running into a brick wall when
we try to come up with new and
different ideas to peak interest.
We ask for input – after all it is
your association – but no one
responds. If you don’t want to
speak up in public, you can
send an e-mail if you have
suggestions. We want to try to
give you what you want as an
association but we cannot
without your help and input. It
gets very frustrating and
discouraging when you
continually try to bring
excitement, enthusiasm, fun,
new things, etc. and no one
seems to want to participate or
it seems that they don’t care one
way or the other. How do we
re-ignite that fire that at one
time was inside each of us when
it came to our association?
Where is that team spirit? I am
not scolding, and I am stepping
on my own toes a little as well.
I just want you to know where
my thoughts are and hope you
will contemplate the coming
year. Ask yourself these
questions – What can I do
different this year? What ideas
can I offer to inspire others to
want to be a part of this
association? What can I do to
help when there is a need? Can
I do more to show my support
for my fellow members and
their ministry? Pray about the
upcoming New Year and let’s
see where God leads our
association and what great
things He has in store for us. I
personally would like to see our
association grow and prosper to
the utmost to glorify our Lord
and Savior, Jesus Christ.
With a song in my heart,
Pat <>< <>< <><

John L. Nordenstrom
In 1965, at the age of 18, I enlisted into the military (Army). Basic training was at Fort Polk, Louisiana, as well as
AIT. After basic I spent a year and a half in Germany, then was sent to Vietnam. I flew as a Door Gunner. I was
awarded the Bronze Star, was shot down 13 times but was never wounded. My first time being shot down while
facing the ground coming up at me believing I would be dead in a few minutes I called upon the Lord Jesus Christ to
forgive me of my sins and save my soul and hearing a small still voice telling me everything would be alright. The
pilot straightened up the Huey helicopter and made a hard landing down at the side of the mountain, which bent the
skids. On board were 2 gunners, 2 pilots, and 8 infantry and no one died and no one was hurt with over 100 holes in
the helicopter.
After coming home to Fort Hood in Texas, I was discharged in 1970. I went to the University of Houston and earned
my BBA. I am married and have 4 grown sons, 12 grand kiddos and one on the way.
I sang with my brothers as a teenager with their band, The Midnight Raiders that played around Houston in the sixties.
In high school I sang with “Meistersingers”.
I am now a member of Unity Baptist Church in Porter, TX for the last 26 years. I am presently the Sunday School
Director as well as any fill-ins where ever I am needed. I sing bass with a quartet named N-Unity at UBC and I am a
soloist.
