It's that time of year again. December has come and with it all the joys of Christmas and
the Advent season. But what is the real meaning of Christmas? Is it the gifts under the tree, the
lights in the windows, the cards in the mail, turkey dinners with family and friends, snow in the
yard, stockings hanging in the living room, and shouts of "Merry Christmas" to those who pass us
in the streets? Is this really Christmas? We all know that Christmas provides us with an oppor-
tunity to celebrate our Savior Jesus Christ being brought into the world. It should remind us that
God loves us so much he sent his son into the world to teach us and save us.
His birth brought great joy to the world. Shepherds, wise men, and angels all shared in
the excitement of knowing about this great event. They knew this was no ordinary baby. The
prophets had told of His coming hundreds of years before. The star stopped over Bethlehem just
to mark the way for those who were looking for this special child. We can truly be happy at
Christmas! No matter what may be happening, we can know that we are His children. We then
become sons and daughters of God. Heaven will be our home one day. Try to look at Christmas
in a new way this year. This year try to invite Jesus into your heart. You will then have a "Merry
Christmas." The joy and peace you will receive will last all year as you look to God for all your
needs to be met.
We have been so busy this first half of the Columbian Year in our Council. I cannot begin
to express how pleased I am how much everyone has been working so hard together to do the
work of the Order. We have introduced some new programs to the Council that have been great,
and we continue with the programs that we have always done that we all have enjoyed year
after year. I look forward to the second half of the year and all of the great things that together
we can accomplish.
On behalf of my wife Jessica and myself, I would like to wish you all a very Merry
Christmas!

Keller’s Korner December 2019 Teach your children well
One of the most important roles you accept as a parent is that of a teacher. Sometimes the values you want to impart (respect, compassion, accountability, financial responsibility, etc.) often run counter to what our instant-gratification driven society values. So, we strive to teach by example. This is one good reason to carry enough life insurance to protect your family. This act can show what you value. You’ll show them that you love them and are concerned about their welfare. You’ll show that you take your responsibility to provide for your family seriously, and that you want to make sure they’re provided for even if you’re not around. It will teach them about priorities. Sure, it may not sink in at the time, especially if any of the sacrifices made prevent them from filling what they see as their immediate “needs” (really things they want, not need, like the newest video game or article of clothing). In the long run, they will learn from what you do and what you don’t do. Let’s meet to review your existing coverage. My needs analysis, provided free, will help teach you where your coverage may be lacking. We can plan today to secure your family’s future and set in motion lessons that will last a lifetime. On Sunday 12/01/19, the Suffolk Chapter will be holding their Annual Bishop’s Mass and Officers Installation. The Mass will be at 11:30 am at OLMC in Patchogue, with the Installation
after the Mass and repast to follow at the Council. The Chapter December Meeting will be Friday 12/13/19 at Saint Peter The Apostle Church, 94 Valley Stream St, Islip Terrace, NY 11752.
It will be their annual Christmas Party. All are welcome.

Brothers, Congratulations to our newest Brothers who made their 1st Degree on November 18th at the Patchogue Council. Thank you Patchogue for hosting the Degree that evening for the 1st Degree. Your team did an awesome job.
Thank you to all Council Delegates for attending the Conference meeting on November 21st. These meetings are important to Suffolk County so that we are properly represented in New York State. C&B is coming to close (or closed by the time you read this). Most Councils in our District realize the benefits of selling C&B and are reaping the rewards. If you missed the opportunity to sell C&B you can sell Chapter Books in January. Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year to all my brothers and their families.

Congratulations to our newest Life Member, Patrick V. Polizzi and Honorary Member Carmine J. Gallo. I am happy to report that our records and forms are currently all up to date. Please update your information as needed. If you have changed your mailing address and have not been receiving the Columbia magazine and membership bills please contact me. Membership cards are mailed as dues come in. As of November 1, 2019 we have 255 associate; 120 insurance; 24 inactive members for a total of 399 members. This is the first time in many years we have dropped below 400 members, recruit a new member
today. The council is in good standing with Supreme and New York State. Intent to retain forms have been filed with supreme, this is the final step for member with dues in arrears. The retention committee is trying to contact members whose dues are in arrears. Send your membership dues in right away. Please make payment promptly to Patchogue K of C 725. “Feed the Needy” Dinner
On Saturday November 23rd our Council hosted a “ Feed the Needy “ dinner for over 125 people at the St.
Francis Kitchen. It was a tremendous success and everyone was very happy and well fed! I would like to
thank everyone who helped to make this event happen. There were so many Brother Knights and their
Families and Sister Columbiettes who were involved I could never thank them all, but I would like to make
special mention to the following: Paul Chalupa who did most of the shopping, Duane Shpak and Joe Brandi
and Jessica Boehm who did a lot of the kitchen work, Kevin Drawbridge for making the arrangements at the
Church and Betty Weeks for getting our Columbiettes involved. Again thank you to everyone who helped!!

SOME GIFTS ARE IRREPLACEABLE AND MORE VALUABLE THAN ANYTHING MONEY CAN BUY
WELL, IT’S THAT TIME of year again. The shopping days left until Christmas are dwindling fast. The list of people on our gift list grows longer every year even as creativity in gift-giving diminishes. Whether shopping online or in a store, our efforts to buy just the right gift so easily revert to the “same old, same old” pattern. What, then, can we give another person that is more valuable than a necktie or a scarf or a half-dozen handkerchiefs? What is even more valuable than some extravagant gift we might give to a loved one if only we had the means? Let me suggest two things: time and presence.
Psalm 90 tells us, “Seventy is the sum of our years, or eighty, if we are strong … they pass quickly, and we are gone” (v. 10). More starkly, the Letter of James tells us that we “are a puff of smoke that appears briefly and then disappears” (4:14). Jesus himself asks, “Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your life-span?” (Mt 6:27).
We can give another person money knowing that we are likely to earn more money tomorrow, but the present moment comes only once and never again. The time we give to another is an irreplaceable gift.
Spending time with a loved one or a person who is grieving or sick is one of the most beautiful gifts we can give at Christmas. For example, on my first Christmas as archbishop of Baltimore, I visited a dying priest in St. Agnes Hospital. It was a gift that brought us close to Jesus, the newborn Savior.
Yes, the pace of life seems to be more and more frenetic nowadays. But are we too busy to spend time with someone in need? If so, we are too busy for our own good.
Time is not the whole story. It’s how we use our time that counts. Showing up and giving of our time is meaningful only if we are fully present to those we visit. Suppose we decide to visit an elderly parent or to be with our families on Christmas. But while we’re with them, we’re constantly checking the time or checking our phones until we are free. If we’re counting the minutes, are we not withholding our presence?
To give the gift of presence, we need to block out other concerns, worries and business, and focus instead on the person or persons at hand.
Isn’t this true of our Knights of Columbus programs and activities? When we’re distributing Coats for Kids and a child tries on a brand-new coat, we should be thinking of no one else but that child, maybe even saying a little prayer for him or her. When we’re helping a family cope with a disaster, we shouldn’t be thinking of the mail piling up on our desk, but only about the family that needs help.
Pope Francis often tells us to accompany one another on the bumpy road of life. He means that we need to focus not on ourselves, but on the other. This is what the gift of presence means.
It turns out that the gifts of time and presence are, together, the one thing we can give the newborn Savior. Have you ever peered into the manger and wondered what to give the One who entered the world to give us ever-lasting life? I am haunted by a phrase in the liturgy: “you have no need of our praise….”
What can we give the Lord that he does not already have? He wants our time and our presence: time for daily prayer, for Mass, for the rosary. He also wants us to be fully present to him when we pray. And when we are present to the Lord, we will also be present when we serve him in the poor, the sick and the vulnerable. For Time + Presence = Love. May you have a most blessed Christmas!

The Annual March for life is Friday January 24th
We strongly encourage any member of the Knights or
Columbiettes from 725 who can March to participate in
this great event. Buses will be leaving locally from
Our Lady of the Snow Parking Lot, Departing at 5 a.m.
sharp and St. Lawrence the Martyr Parking Lot at 5:15 a.m. sharp. This is the same bus.
Please inform Grand Knight Mike Boehm if you are going no later than December 16th.. Bus
reservations are $10 per person. This cost will be covered by Patchogue Council for any
Brother Knight or Sister Columbiette from 725 who is attending this event and reserves their
spot by the 16th. We hope to see you there!!!

THE SENIORS
My Dear Sister Columbiettes and Brother Knights,
Thanksgiving is over and Christmas is right around the corner, so as this year comes to a close I want
to thank everyone for all the support and help with the St. Liberata fundraiser, you Ladies Rock. Our
four church food pantries will be getting a very generous gift this Christmas. The winners of the baskets were
pulled and one of our very own Columbiette was a winner. Many of you may know her from chairing the
degrees. Her name is Kathy Anderson and she is the New York State Columbiette Treasurer. I have delivered the
second basket to that winner.
This year the Knights will be hosting a Thanksgiving dinner for the homeless at St. Francis de Sales food kitchen
on November 23rd and I would like to thank all the ladies who volunteered to help with the Chinese Auction.
Rosemarie Libertelli will have flyers and a signup sheet at our January 15th meeting.
