Following the instructions from Governor Cuomo, our rectory will be closed until fur-ther notice. If there is an emergency you can still reach the priests by calling the rectory at 718-792-4044. The church will be open for pri-vate prayer from 9 AM to 3 PM—Monday through Saturday, and from 9 AM to 2 PM on Sunday. May God bless you all.

Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord April 12, 2020 When Christ your life appears, then you too will appear with him in glory. — Colossians 3:4

SEEDS OF FAITH There is a brevity, a certain terseness, in the scripture readings for Easter Sunday. Peter’s speech in Acts is built of direct, pointed sentences. Paul’s letters are based on straightforward creed-like statements. Even the Gospel story only briefly recounts what will turn out to be one of the most remarkable events in human history—the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. Advertising agents call these encapsulated points of information “bullet points.” Scripture scholars call them kerygmata, or “kernels” of our faith. Actually, “kernels” or “seeds” are good terms for these statements, since throughout the Easter season, we will hear in the Acts of the Apostles, the Letters of Paul, and the Gospel accounts of the days following the Resurrection exactly how these kerygmata began to flower, how they continued to grow through the life of the early church. May these Easter “seeds” of faith serve a similar purpose for us, too, so that the life of the Risen Christ will flourish in us and through our witness in the coming days. Copyright © J. S. RECEPTION OF HOLY COMMUNION … Just a reminder that we receive Holy Communion either in our hands, by holding out both hands one on top of the other, or, in our mouths, by sticking out our tongues to receive in the mouth. Both ways are valid. Understand if you are carrying a child in your arms, and both hands are not free, the priest will most likely want you to receive in the mouth. This is to limit the possibility of our Lord, in the form of the Eucharist, falling to the ground. Also remember that the proper response to the priest before receiving Holy Communion is “Amen,” not “Thank you.” BAPTISMS … all Catholics should be baptized … parents should be registered in the parish and attending weekly Sunday Mass in order to have the child baptized … godparents must be practicing Catholics who have received the sacraments of Baptism, Holy Communion and Confirmation and, if married, married in the church … godparents must be members of a parish and must be attending weekly Mass … if you are going to be a godparent, it makes perfect and reasonable sense that you are practicing the faith and that you are a model for the child. SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY ... the Catholic Church teaches that marriage is between a man and a woman, a sign of LOVE and LIFE ... Catholics should be married in the church and, if married only civilly, should speak to one of the priests about receiving the sacrament in the Church (called convalidation) ... please know that you are welcome to ask questions and to receive direction and advice about the SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY … Please remember to secure a date for your wedding before making any arrangements with caterers, limo drivers, family and friends. FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS … the usual practice for Catholic burials is a wake service in a funeral home, a Funeral Mass in the parish church, burial of the body or cremains in a cemetery (preferably a Catholic cemetery) … speak with one of the priests for assistance before a death occurs and speak with a reputable funeral home director about pre-arrangements … cremains (ashes) are held in the same reverence and respect as a body and so they should be treated carefully, respectfully, reverentially and buried as soon as possible after cremation. PARISH REGISTRATION … all members of the parish should be registered and receive parish mailings and envelopes … if you are an adult (18 years and older), you should register to receive the envelopes and other information from the parish … you need to be registered in order to receive recommendation letters, financial statements, tuition rates and other parish related issues.

Los católicos deben casarse en la iglesia y, si es casado sólo civilmente, debe hablar con uno de los sacerdotes acerca de recibir el sacramento en la iglesia (llamado convalidación) ... por favor saber que son bienvenidos para hacer preguntas y recibir dirección y consejos sobre el SACRAMENTO DEL MATRIMONIO … Por favor recuerde de asegurar la fecha para su ceremonia antes de hacer cualquier arreglos con los proveedores, los conductores de la limosina, la familia y los amigos. REGISTRACION PARROQUIAL … todos los miembros de la

parroquia debe estar registrados y recibir correspondencia parroquial y los sobres … si usted es un adulto (18 años y más), debe registrarse para recibir los sobres y otra información de la parroquia … tienes que estar registrado para poder recibir cartas de recomendación, cartas financieras, precios de matriculación y otros temas relacionados con la parroquia.

Domingo de Pascua: La Resurrección del Señor 12 de abril de 2020 Cuando se manifieste Cristo, vida de ustedes, entonces también ustedes se manifestarán gloriosos, juntamente con él. — Colosenses 3:4

SEMILLAS DE FE Hay una brevedad, una cierta concisión en las lecturas del Domingo de Pascua. El discurso de Pedro en Hechos está construido con frases directas y al punto. Las cartas de Pablo se basan en declaraciones directas como credos. Hasta el relato del Evangelio sólo narra brevemente lo que resultará ser uno de los sucesos más notables de la historia humana –la Resurrección de Jesús de entre los muertos. Los agentes publicitarios llaman a estos resúmenes “puntos para destacar”. Los biblistas los llaman kerigma o las “semillas” de nuestra fe. En realidad, “semillas” o granos son buenos términos para estas afirmaciones, puesto que durante todo el tiempo de Pascua, oiremos en los Hechos de los Apóstoles, en las cartas de Pablo y en los relatos del Evangelio sobre los días que siguieron a la Resurrección, exactamente cómo ese kerigma comienza a florecer, cómo continúa creciendo en la vida de la nueva Iglesia. Que estas “semillas” pascuales de fe sirvan un propósito similar para nosotros también, para que la vida de Cristo Resucitado florezca en nosotros y mediante nuestro testimonio en los días que siguen.
