GEOFF, HAYLEY & GRAYSON LOURENS
FAMILY OF THE WEEK
OUR FAMILYHayley grew up in Morningside and went to school at Crawford College Sandton. She studied creative brand communications at Vega and worked in advertising for 10 years before completing her PGCE and making the move to teaching. She is currently a Grade 2 teacher at Pinnacle College Waterfall. Geo was born in Durban, grew up in Klerksdorp, studied Advertising Management in Pretoria and moved to Jo’burg in 2010. He is a Strategic Planner with Spark44, developing communications strategies for Jaguar Land Rover. Geo and Hayley met while working at the same Agency group and married in 2016 at Buitengeluk. They have a 2-year old son named Grayson, and live in Sunninghill with their kitten, Luna.
YOUR CONNECTION TO ST. COLUMBA’S
Geo and Hayley were looking for a minister to marry them and were encouraged by their family friend, Linsey Stephan, to meet the new minister at St. Columba’s at the time – Alistair. Hayley and Geo felt a really special connection with the church and opted to baptise Grayson at St. Columbas. They decided to become active members of the St. Columba’s community ever since.
HOW ARE YOU DEALING WITH THE LOCKDOWN?
Geo and Hayley have been fortunate enough to still be able to work throughout lockdown and although it has its tough moments, the lockdown has aorded them the wonderful opportunity to spend more time with Grayson – keeping busy with indoor and outdoor activities, baking, cooking, a little redecorating, and looking after a newly adopted kitten.
YOUR INSIGHT DURING THIS DIFFICULT TIME?
The Lourenses have gained a new appreciation for the little things in life – the simple act of visiting family close-by has been replaced by Zoom dinners, and the unavailability of non-essential goods has made Geo and Hayley more creative in nding solutions to keeping Grayson entertained. Their biggest lesson throughout all of this is that while lockdown has been restrictive, it’s also forced them to re-prioritise things that typically would have fallen by the wayside pre-lockdown. It’s about slowing down and appreciating the extra time they have as a family without all the outside distractions.
