Why Should You Detox?

Toxins are very harmful to the body. They are chemical or poison that is known to have harmful effect on the body and overlabour the internal body organs to process.

These toxins include the waste products that the body pushes out in form of sweat, urine and excreta..

The shocking truth is that we ingest/digest toxins everyday. Toxins like chemicals, additives, preservatives in the air and in our food.

This toxin comes mostly from human made toxins that we are exposed to in our:

Environment e.g. Toxic fumes from car exhaust, dust, fumes from generator etc

The food we eat e.g. chemicals from processed foods, food additives, chemical flavourings and live stocks fed with genetically modified foods

Water e.g. Chlorinated, processed & bottle water e.g. Seeping of chemical from plastic bottle into its water etc

Household Products which includes air freshners, bleaches etc Personal care products like deodorant, shampoo, hairspray etc.

The toxins our body is exposed to on a daily basis is in large numbers and this put so much stress on our body.

The way your body is designed, has its own way of natural detoxification mechanism.

The 3-Day Detox Diet House Rules

Just before I show you exactly how you can get rid of the harmful toxins that may be lodged in your body, I need to give you some house rules before you get started.

Whatever you do, DO NOT ignore any of these rules, as they are critical to the success of your 3-Day Detox Program.

Are you ready?

Now, lets go ahead:

Rule 1 - Undergo this detox program preferably on a Friday - Sunday.

This is because you are most likely not doing energy sapping activity & you will have time to prepare your detox foods.

Rule 2 - Eliminate packaged processed & refined foods from your diet during detoxification.

Rule 3 - Ensure you drink up to 8 glasses of water daily.

Rule 4 - Ensure you get 30 minutes of moderate activity like strolling, brisk walking everyday on during the detox program etc.

Rule 5 - Prepare for the high and lows in your energy levels as your body undergo the cleansing process.

Rule 6 - Ensure you rest when you feel tired & have at least 7 - 8 hours of good sleep(no working too hard)

Rule 7 - Take it one day at a time. Don't worry about tomorrow. Breathe - Relax - Enjoy the process!

Remember that you are healing yourself. Treat yourself well.

This program IS NOT a starvation diet. If you know me, you'd know that I am completely against starving yourself to lose weight.

It does not work as a long term solution.

If you follow this 3-Day Detox Diet, you will feel full, have lots of energy and after 3-Days, you will feel great in your body.

Not only that, you will even lose some Kg and your tummy will become flatter.

I recommend undergoing a detox no more than 4 times per year. So, for example, you can do it every quarter of the year.

WARNING - Do not detox by drinking the juice alone! If you do that, you are starving yourself. Ensure you eat suggested and recommended detox food that come with the 3-Day Detox Program.

You can mix and match the smoothies and foods as it suits you based on the smoothie and meal suggestions in this plan etc.

The 3 Day Detox Diet Shopping List

Now that we are done with the ground rules, it is time for us to start the detoxification program. But before we start, we need to write down what we need for the detoxification.

The first thing you need is a "Fruit Juicer". If you have spare cash and want to do this on a regular basis, you can purchase a juicer from main eletronic stores. I am also sure you can get one at Shoprite or any other main supermarket.

There are different variations, but your fruit juicer should look something like the one in the picture below:

You can also improvise if you do not have a juicer readily available to you. If you have a blender at home, this would "nearly" serve the purpose as well. So you can use a blender for making your smoothie.

Apart from the above, here are the other ingredients/fruits/foods that you need to source for for your 3-Day Detox:

You should be able to get any of the above fruits and food from any market anywhere in Nigeria.

If you have problem sourcing some, simply ask for direction from the fruit/vegetable seller.

They usually have information that will guide you. Also, if you live in Major Cities like Ibadan, Abuja, Lagos, you can get most of your fruits from Shoprite or any grocery supermarket that sells fruits.

By now, you should have your juicer/blender. You have all your detox ingredients.

How to Create The Perfect Smoothie

Lets get it right to make these smoothies, so we can enjoy them. Making your detox smoothies can be very simple.

Your first day might be a bit clumsy, especially if you've never made one before.

But don't panic, by the second day, you will be an expert at creating your smoothie, so don't be too hard on yourself if your first time, your smoothie is not perfect.

When I first made my own first smoothie, It was very very messy.

Then it got better, and now I am able to create a perfect smoothie that I drink when I want to detox my body.

I am sure you know how to use a Blender/Juicer. If you don't, simply follow the instruction manual that comes with yours.

To use your juicer/blender, Just throw in your ingredients and power it on.

8 Steps To Create a Perfect Detox Smoothie:

1. The Base - Your base fruit should be water based. E.g. Orange or Melon.

These fruits are very juicy and should go first in the blender. This is because it contain lots of water and will create a rich creamy mixture. Put them first in your blender.

2 . Add The green vegetables & other ingredients - add as many as possible, based on the recipe below. Let your fruits be 60% and your green be 40%.

3. Blend the mixture on high for about 30 seconds or longer until you get the texture and creaminess you want.

4. Pour into a glass, add some ice and enjoy your smoothie. If you need to add some liquid, let it be water

The Next Step Now Is For You To Undergo The Detox Program.

Just like I said earlier, the best time to do your detox is a Friday - Sunday. By this, you'll be able to prepare your mind and body for the cleansing process and also have time to complete it.

NOTE - You can do your own detox on different days as it suit your schedule or based on your schedule.

I have only recommend weekend, because the average individual has a 9 - 5 Job that spans Monday to Friday.

The Three Day Detox Diet Plan

DAY ONE - FRIDAY

Upon Rising: Get up & Weigh yourself using a scale (if possible). This will help you know how many kg you are on Day 1.

Then, do some deep breathing exercises. E.g. Take long breath in and out for 2 - 3 minutes.

Then, Squeeze half a lemon in a cup of water & add a little bit of honey. Drink this first thing before your breakfast. (Rinse your mouth afterwards)

Breakfast

Simple Green Wake Up Smoothie:

INGREDIENT

1/2 Cucumber1 Apple1 Carrot1 Banana

PREPARATION

Put 1/2 cucumber, 1 Apple, 1 Carrot & 1 Banana your blender and make a smoothie. Pour this into a cup and add one cube of ice, then drink.

If you feel hungry midday, snack on an Apple or 1 Boiled Egg.

LUNCH

Super Salad:

INGREDIENTS

1 medium ball of lettuce1/2 chopped red pepper (Tatase)1/2 chopped carrots2 Tomatoes1/2 size Cucumber

PREPARATION

1. Washed the lettuces in water. I then shred it with my hands into a bowl.

2. Cut the cucumbers, tomatoes and bell pepper into small pieces.

3. Then grate the carrots with a grater.

4. I put all of the prepared ingredients above into the bowl of lettuce and mixed them Gently.

5. Serve in a plate, then add marinated chicken (Boiled or smoked).

Then garnished it with some home made dressing: ( 1 teaspoon olive oil + squeezed lemon juice + little salt & pepper).

Afternoon Snack: Handful of Cashew or Almond Nuts.

DINNER

Lemon Chicken

INGREDIENTS

1 Chicken Breast (The outer skin removed)2. 1 tablespoon extra virgion olive oil3. Pepper to Taste4. 1 Lemon

PREPARATION

1. Pat the chcken breast dry and sprinke olive oil and pepper.

2. Slice lemon into 1/4 inch slices and place slices on top of the chicken.

3. Then bake/Smoke it at 180 DegC for 15 minutes or until cooked.

4. Serve and eat with some slice of cucumber or lettuce as desired.

DAY TWO - SATURDAY

Upon Rising: Get up & do some deep breathing exercises. E.g. Take long breath in and out for 2 - 3 minutes.

Tropical Delight Smoothie:

INGREDIENT

1 Banana

1 Pawpaw

1 Orange

1 Mango/Apple (if in season)

1 medium sized cucumber

PREPARATIONS

Step 1 - Wash all your fruits with water to clean it.

Step 2 - Peel the back of your pawpaw, Orange, Mango/Apple with your knife and use the tip of the knife to take out the seeds in the fruits.

Step 3 - Cut the Peeled Banana, Pawpaw, Mango & Apple, Orange and cucumber into smaller pieces and put in the blender.

Step 4 - Blend the mixture on high for about 30 seconds or longer, until you get the texture and creaminess you want.

Step 5 - Pour into a glass cup and drink (you can add ice to make it cold).

Morning Snack - 1 Orange

LUNCH

Stir Fry Rice:

INGREDIENT

Half cup of raw rice (preferably brown or ofada)2 Carrots1 Bell Pepper (Tatase)Green Beans

1. Chop all the carrots, Bell Pepper, Cabbage, Onion and red hot pepper. Cook the 1/2 cup of rice with water.

2. Put a frying pan on the cooker, put 1 teaspoon of olive oil

3. Put chopped carrots, bell peppers, cabbage, Onion & red hot pepper. Stir/Saute for 7 - 8 minutes,

4. Add the boiled rice, season with a little Maggi to taste. Then Serve.

Afternoon Snack - 1 Banana

DINNER

SUPER FISH MEAL:

INGREDIENT

1 Salmon/Herring/Titus fish ( Use any fish you find)1 tbspoon extra virgin Olive OilRed hot pepperSalt & Maggi to tasteAvocado

PREPARATION

1. Pat the Fish with Olive Oil and sprinkle some freshly chopped pepper & Salt/Seasoning.

2. Then bake/Smoke it at 180 DegC for 15 minutes or until cooked.

3. Serve with Ripe Avocado as desired.

DAY THREE - SUNDAY

Step 5 - Pour into a glass cup and drink (you can add ice to make it cold).

Morning Snack - medium slice cucumber

Day 3 - Lunch

PREPARATION

Peel & wash all fruits. Dice the fruits and mix them in a bowl, then serve and enjoy it chilled.

There you go with the 3-Day Detox Diet. The above Detox Diet uses a combination of detox smoothie and other healthy detox meals to form a 3-Day cleansing program.

Remember, do not put yourself on a smoothie only diet for all your meals (e.g. Smoothie, in the morning, afternoon & night).

If you do, you will deprive your body of enough calories to function on a daily basis. If you notice, I have only incorporated 1 smoothie per day. This is easier and healthier.

This is very important as your body needs at least 1000 - 1200 calories per day.

INGREDIENT
