The Local Organizing Committee and host institutions recognize the importance of lichens in this dynamic changing world. The most up-to dated research findings world wide will be presented and discussed at IAL 7. Future progress in lichen research will be built upon these recent findings. It is a great honour to host IAL 7, and we are fully committed to ensure that the conference is productive and every participant is comfortable in Thailand, the land of smile. Scientific SessionsScientific themes of the IAL 7 cover all fields of lichenology. The program structure consists of keynote symposia, interdisciplinary session and two parallel focus sessions.

I. Plenary Keynote Lectures: 5 days comprehensive keynote lectures by Pranom Chantaranothai, Pier Luigi Nimis, Jolanta Miadlikowska, Jouko Rikkinen and more.

II. Interdisciplinary Sessions: Submission topics are as follow:

1. Exploring the lichen microbiome and its multifaceted interactions

2. Adaptation and morphological evolution 3. New approaches to understanding

biosynthesis and ecological roles of metabolites in lichens

4. Lichenological research in South-East Asia and the Pacific region

5. Global change and lichen biology

III. Focus Sessions (2 in parallel): Submission topics are as follow:

1. Lichen conservation: concepts and action

2. Genomic approaches to studying the lichen symbiosis

3. Graphidaceae: progress in understanding the evolution and diversity of the largest family of tropical crustose lichens

4. P a r m e l i a c e a e : i m p r o v i n g o u r understanding of taxonomy, classification and biogeography

5. Forest l ichens: their ecology and distribution

6. Molecular phylogenetics 7. Evolution and Systematics in the

Teloschistales 8. The ecological roles of lichens in diverse

ecosystems 9. Bioinformatics

Call for Abstract:

ScholarshipThe IAL and The British Lichen Society are both offering travel grants to their members with respect to IAL7. Post Symposium Excursion: 14 – 18/19 January 2012

Post symposium Excursion is divided into 3 routes. Each excursion takes around 5-7 days and can accommodate only 30 persons. Booking bases on first come first serve. For more information, please visit conference website at www.IAL7.com or www.ial7.ru.ac.th

1) The Northern route - the Himalaya foot hills: 5-day excursion, fly to Chiang Mai Airport on 14th January 2012. The area is famous for its culture and subtropical flora. Natural vegetations are deciduous dipterocarp on lowland and evergreen forests on high mountains. Visit Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden and Doi Inthanon National Park: the highest peak of Thailand (2,565 mASL). Fly back to Bangkok on 19th January. Led by Sureeporn Jariangprasert from Maejo University and Wanaruk Saipunkaew of Chiang Mai University. Hosted by Chiang Mai University, Maejo University and Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden. Cost: 20,000 THB (~490 € ) per person includes some meals, reception dinner, accommodation, transportation, tickets to the national park and air ticket round trip Bangkok-Chiang Mai.

2) The Northeastern route - old Dinosaur area: 5-day excursion, fly to Khon Kaen on 14th January 2012. Visit Maha Sarakham, Kalasin and Mukdahan. The areas are surrounded by Dipterocarp forests. Dinosaurs have been excavated in these areas. Fly back to Bangkok on 18th January. Hosted by Khwanruan Papong of Mahasarakham University. Cost: 16,500 THB (~ 405 € ) per person

3) The Eastern route - sea coast and mangrove forest: 5-day excursion, commute by vans to Trat province in 14th January 2012, stay at Ban Pu Resort and Spa (http://www.banpuresor tandspa.com/en/ ) in the mangrove forest. Pristine mangrove forest, beach forests and tropical fruit plantations are accessible. Come back to Bangkok by vans in 18th January 2012. Led by Pachara Mongkolsuk, Kawinnat Buaruang and Wetchasart Polyiam from Ramkhamhaeng University. Cost: 12,500 (~305 € ) per person includes meals, reception dinner, accommodation, transportation.

In addition to the post excursion, there will be two workshops being organized in Ban Pu Resort and Spa, parallel with this excursion.

AccommodationThe local organization committee has prepared the special rate of the hotels located close to the symposium venue for the delegates. Prices range from 25 - 190 €. For more information, please visit website or contact conference secretariat

Pre & Post Tour & Accompanying Program

Delegates and their spouses will find many ways to enjoy their leisure time before and after the symposium.
