Congratulations to 2007 Dr. Horiba Entrepreneur Award Winner by Dr. Masao Horiba
I am very delighted to see that AABI Entrepreneur Award reached
the third time, and then every time we received active nominations
from a number of excellent entrepreneurs from the Asia and the
Pacific region. Dr. Kim Hong, the head of the committee and
judging members must have had a hard time judging and deciding.
At the first place, I would like to give my sincere thanks to all the
judging members concerned. Winner: Mr. Kenji MiyoshinoPresident&CEO of DDS, Inc.
I heartily congratulate Mr. Kenji Miyoshino, President and CEO of DDS, Inc. on winning the
AABI Entrepreneur Award 2007. Dr. Kim Hong reported to me the result of the judging, and
then I was very impressed about Mr. Miyoshino’s long-term commitment and
entrepreneurial activities. Since inception of 1995, Mr. Miyoshino has put enormous effort to
develop technologies and grow the company up to the present state as a leading company of
biometrics authentication system based in Japan.
By utilizing the incubation program of Nagoya Business Incubator, Mr. Miyoshino and DDS
have committed the technological development and commercialization with speed, and
which led to expansion of the company to the international market. These are common in
other past award winners, and will be very instructive to current and expecting
entrepreneurs. In addition, Mr. Miyoshino and DDS develop the core technology through
collaboration with universities and research institutions. This is a model of collaboration
between industry and academia and will be useful information for business incubation
centers how the managers support their client entrepreneurs through the collaboration with
outer resources.
I hope this will be a leap of Mr. Miyoshino and growth and expansion of the company, and at
the same time, I also expect Mr. Miyoshino and DDS more hard work as a model of
entrepreneurial companies which all the AABI members and incubators are supporting.
Congratulations once again.
At last, I would like to insist importance of our AABI activities. The entrepreneurs are the
engine of future economic growth and it is our task to support them. I hope and request the
AABI that our activities will lead to further development of economy and prosperity of
people in the Asia and the Pacific region.

Marine and Offshore SMEs Scout for Business Opportunities in Houston
SPRING Singapore and IE Singapore bring 14 Singapore SMEs to Houston to explore
business collaborations and technology transfer with their US counterparts. Largest
ever Singapore delegation attend the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston.
Singapore’s Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the Marine and Offshore
industry will get the opportunity to explore business opportunities and technology
transfer with their counterparts in the United States. Twenty-one senior
management executives from fourteen SMEs left yesterday for a power-packed
overseas mission to Houston, Texas. This mission is jointly organized by SPRING
Singapore and International Enterprise (IE) Singapore and is supported by the US
Commerce Service, Economic Development Board and Association of Singapore
Marine Industries (ASMI).
The mission provides a good platform for these SMEs who have not penetrated the
US market. Currently, SMEs would usually secure orders via the local bases which
are set up by Multi-National Companies (MNCs) in Singapore. Now, they have the
opportunity of meeting these MNCs and having direct one-to-one contact with the
respective US headquarters global procurement staff. This Singapore SME delegation
would also be meeting established trade associations such as Petroleum Equipment
Suppliers Association which is dedicated exclusively to the US oilfield service and
supply sector and with first & second tier offshore equipment suppliers, research
institutes and certification bodies.
In addition, the delegation will be attending the Offshore Technology Conference
(OTC) in Houston - the world’s foremost event for the development of oil and gas
industry. This will be the largest Singapore delegation attending the event, which
ranks amongst the 10 largest trade shows in US (in terms of attendance), with
participation from more than 110 countries. Spearheaded by ASMI, Singapore will
have its own 2,400-square feet pavilion booth at the OTC showcasing 12 companies
in the Marine and Offshore industries. The Pavilion is supported by IE Singapore. In
conjunction with the visit, SPRING Singapore and ASMI will also be organizing a
networking session at the booth on 5 May 2008. 10
