Dutchess Day School Art Show
Our application for participation in the fifth annual “Young Emerging Artists of the Hudson
Valley” art show has been sent out. This means that the students of the AEC will once again
have their artwork on display with all of the other schools in the area.
As you may remember, every year Dutchess Day School in Millbrook, with the assistance of
Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Presidential Library and Museum in Hyde Park, puts on this great
event. This year’s show will take place in the Henry A. Wallace Center located at the FDR
Presidential Library and Museum from April 8– April 10, 2011, with an opening reception
on Friday, April 8 at 4:00 p.m. Hope to see you there!
Happy New Year!!!

Over the last few weeks students have been hard at work creat-
ing colorful winter decorations that were on display during this
year’s Holiday Bazaar that was held at the AEC (Dec. 10).
The theme for this year’s decorations were “Snowmen and
Penguins”. They were created using construction paper, other
recycled papers, and glue (examples at right and bottom of page).
From all reports the Holiday Bazaar and the students decora-
tions were a great success. A special “thank you” should be
given to all of the volunteers, including Cindy R, Lorrie H, the
entire Speech Department, and our Gym Teachers (Eli C.
and Dara P.) for putting in all the hard work!! Thanks and Great
Job!!
Additional “Snowmen” and “Penguins” are on display in Art Room (Rm. 416).

Students have just completed an art project based on the “Pop-Art” created by Andy War-
hol. The inspiration for their art was Warhol’s “Banana” silk screens. The students’ ver-
sions were created using “mono-print” and collage techniques (see examples below).
Their “Mono-Prints” were created by brushing tempera paint onto the “banana” templates,
turning them over and then pressing the templates onto the construction paper. This trans-
fers the tempera paint onto the paper.
