The Arkansas Common Core Curriculum Framework
What the Framework is The Common Core Framework is designed as a bridge between classroom
instructional practices and the Common Core and more importantly, the GED exam.
It is for grade levels 6.0 – 12.9.
It has 4 elements for each Anchor: 1. OCTAE’s CCR Standards,
2. Skills that the students should acquire as a result of the learning,
3. Sample Activities to help engage the student in the process,
4. Resources to help facilitate learning.

Timeline In May, Director Walker tasked the State Office with developing a
Framework that would align with the Common Core elements of the GED.
After the committee was developed, committee members worked over the summer to develop the document. This included a 2-day work retreat held in Little Rock at the AALRC.
Meetings were also held using Wiggio® and conference call.
Tasks The first task the committee tackled was to look at other states that had
developed similar documents.
Committee members looked at several states, including: New York, Kentucky, Florida and Georgia.
The committee did an excellent job of developing the initial document that aligned with the Common Core.
During the work retreat held in July, committee members broke into groups and added sample activities, resources including websites and textbooks that align with OCTAE’s CCR standards.

Apply and extend previous understandings of numbers to the system of rational numbers.ANCHOR 6.NS.5
Math: Level D
SKILL
Understand that positive and negative numbers are used together to describe quantities having opposite directions or values (e.g., temperature above/below zero, elevation above/below sea level, credits/debits, positive/negative electric charge); use positive and negative numbers to represent quantities in real-world contexts, explaining the meaning of 0 in each situation.
