The Army Reserve Ambassador (ARA) Program was established in April 1998 for private citizens to promote
awareness of the Army Reserve and the identified goals and objectives of the Chief of Army Reserve (CAR).
ARAs develop awareness and advocacy with community lead-ers and are vitally important bridges to communities across the Nation. They function at the state and local level and
voluntarily represent the CAR without salary, wages or other benefits. Their function is similar to that of Civilian Aides to the
Secretary of the Army (CASA), and they carry a protocol status equivalent to a major general. This is a
key means by which Ambassadors are able to effectively execute their responsibilities.
ARAs are relied upon to: (a) seek support from elected offi-cials and engage stakeholders at the local and state levels;
(b) bring in community support/awareness to our events and needs; (c) open doors in business and industry and
institutions of higher learning; and (d) educate and inform the public/government/business on the Army Reserve (AR), its needs and to garner support. These capabilities, skills and
talents are what make ARAs so unique and valuable.
Not only do they build relationships that improve understanding and awareness of the AR within the business
and civilian sectors; they also work with ESGR contacts, Military and Veteran Service Organizations, CASAs, and
Family Readiness Groups on key Soldier and Family issues; including those that may have strategic implications and
benefits across the Army Reserve. Most beneficial is that they provide “continuity” over the long term; while local Army
Reserve team leaders come and go, Ambassadors are vested in their communities. We ask that Commanders, Sergeants
Major and Public Affairs Officers include them in their planning and partner with them to help increase understanding,
awareness and support of the AR.
Regional/Mission Support Command coordinators provide administrative support to and oversight of their respective
regional Ambassadors.
To contact your Army Reserve Ambassador, visit the AR website at the Community tab at: http://www.usar.army.mil or by calling their
respective coordinator listed above.
