    materials

    10 (10") red print squares

    10 (10") green print squares

    20 (10") assorted light print squares

    40 (10") assorted dark print squares

    (or 2 Layer Cakes*)

    2 yards brown print for outer

    border and binding5⁄8 yard tan print for inner border

    71⁄8 yards backing fabric

    Full-size quilt batting

    * Layer Cake = 42 (10") squares

    Note: Fabrics in the quilt shown

    are from the Perennials and Kansas

    troubles Favorites collections by

    Kansas troubles for Moda.

    CuttingMeasurements include ¼" seam

    allowances. Border strips are exact

    length needed. You may want to

    make them longer to allow for

    piecing variations.

    Note: if using layer Cake squares,

    sort as follows: 10 red squares, 10

    green squares, 20 assorted light

    squares, 40 assorted dark squares.

    From each red print square, cut:

    • 4 (4¾") B squares.

    From each green print square,

    cut:

    • 4 (4¾") B squares.

    From each light print square, cut:

    • 1 (93⁄8") square. Cut square in half

    diagonally to make 2 half-square

    C triangles.

    From each of 20 dark print

    squares, cut:

    • 1 (93⁄8") square. Cut square in half

    diagonally to make 2 half-square

    C triangles.

    From each remaining dark print

    square, cut:

    • 1 (9") A square.

    From brown print, cut:

    • 9 (4½"-wide) strips. Piece strips to

    make 2 (4½" × 88½") side outer

    borders and 2 (4½" × 79½") top

    and bottom outer borders.

    • 10 (2¼"-wide) strips for binding.

    From tan print, cut:

    • 9 (2"-wide) strips. Piece strips to

    make 2 (2" × 85½") side inner

    borders and 2 (2" × 71½") top and

    bottom inner borders.

    Unit assembly1. Join 1 dark print C triangle and 1

    light print C triangle as shown in

    Triangle-Square Diagrams. Make 40 triangle-squares.

    Quilt assembly1. Lay out triangle-squares, Four

    Patch Units, and A squares as

    shown in Quilt Top Assembly Diagram.

    2. Join into rows; join rows to com-

    plete quilt center.

    3. Add tan print side inner borders

    to quilt center. Add tan print top

    and bottom borders to quilt.

    4. Repeat for brown print outer

    borders.

    Finishing1. Divide backing into 3 (23⁄8-yard)

    lengths. Join panels lengthwise.

    Seams will run horizontally.

    2. Layer backing, batting, and quilt

    top; baste. Quilt as desired. Quilt

    shown was quilted with an allover

    leaf design (Quilting Diagram).3. Join 2¼"-wide brown print

    strips into 1 continuous piece for

    straight-grain French-fold binding.

    Add binding to quilt.
