Art and Science
How will you ensure: • Your data gathering
process align?• Your counseling
processes are aligned?• That you are gathering
the right data?• You target the right
Challenge Points?
Do you know how to:• Read the Performance

calculation formulas?• Know where to go for
help?

CCRPI vs. AYP
• Broader than AYP• Much more complex• Focused on getting students ready for college
and careers• Forces schools to set clear academic and
non-academic goals• Much greater public information &
transparency

Overall Picture
Because the bulk of your CCRPI is based on student achievement, you can make greatest gains by ensuring that curriculum, assessment, and instructional practices are the best they can be.
Jasper County September 2013 17
Leverage Point #1
1a. Is your curriculum fully aligned and updated annually?
1b. Are your assessment practices fully aligned to the curriculum?
1c. Are all your teachers using best instructional practices?
1d. Are all students held to the same rigorous expectations?
Jasper County September 2013 18
Leverage Point #2: Participation
In order to get credit for any Content Mastery indicator, the school must have a 95% participation rate
Do your counselors/registrars know what they should be doing?
Do they know how to do it?Are they getting it right? Is any one checking?
Jasper County September 2013 19
Participation Rate2012 CCRPI Report– Schools will earn points on the Content Mastery
indicators if the Participation Rate < 95%.– Participation Rate will be suppressed on the 2012
CCRPI public reports.
2013 CCRPI Report – Schools will earn ZERO (0) points for the Content
Mastery indicators if the Participation Rate is < 95%.

Participation Rate Issues
• After the public release of the 2012 CCRPI report, Accountability will apply the calculation fixes (for the GaDOE issues) to the 2012 data.
• The recalculated participation rates will be posted in the portal for schools and districts to review.
• Schools should review the data currently in the portal reports and alert your Accountability Specialist of any issue you find with the calculations.

Strategies that Support Achievement
We know that students learn best when they think that we care about them enough to pay attention to them.
Are we paying attention to and monitoring the details in a deliberate and intentional manner?
Jasper County September 2013 42
Leverage Point #31. Do your school improvement plans address the
% of students exceeding on the CRCT/EOCT?2. Do your Data Rooms/Data Discussions address
the % of students exceeding on the CRCT/EOCT?3. Do you regularly monitor and tally the % of
students who are passing all four core areas?4. Do your schools have flexible & immediate
interventions for students who are failing one or more subject?

Leverage Point #4: Progress Score• Do you and your teachers know how to read the
Student Growth Percentile (SGP)?• Have you set growth targets for all students, groups
of students, individual students?• Are your gifted students growing at a faster rate
than the “all” group?• How does the growth of your SWD compare to your
“all” students?• Are there growth differences in different SWD
subgroups?

Progress Scores
The Progress score will be calculated based on the percentage of a school’s students demonstrating typical or high growth via their Student Growth Percentiles (SGP).
A SGP describes a student’s growth on state tests relative to other students statewide with similar prior achievement. A student’s growth percentile can range from 1 to 99, and every student’s SGPs may earn points towards the Progress Score.

Student Growth Percentiles
Students obtain growth percentiles, ranging from

achievement compares with that of their
statewide academic peers with similar score

Median vs MeanThe median is a better indicator of central tendency if a set of scores has outliers.
Suppose we use a sample of 10 households to estimate typical family income. Nine of the households have incomes between $75,000 and $100,000, but the tenth household has an annual income of $700,000.
If we calculate the income of a typical household, the mean will greatly over-estimate the income of a typical family -- because of the outlier -- while the median will not.

Achievement Gap Score – 15%
Gap between the lowest 25% of school’s achievers and the state average
Uses the higher of the gap size OR the gap change
Based on a DOE benchmarkUses FAY students
Jasper County September 2013 76
The Achievement Gap score assigns points to schools for their progress in closing or having small achievement gaps on state tests between schools’ lowest 25% of achievers and the state average.
The gap size is calculated by finding the difference in average scores on state tests between the school’s lowest 25% of achievers and the state.
The gap change compares the gap size for the prior year to the current year.
The school receives points for either the gap size or the gap change, which ever is higher.

• Do you know what the gap is between your school’s lowest FAY quartile and the state FAY average?
• Do you know which students scored in the lowest quartile?
• Have you targeted those students with specific interventions?

Simplified:If the indicator performance percentage is above the benchmark, award 10 points for the indicator.
If not, divide the performance percentage by the benchmark.(35.5 divided by 59.1 = 60.1)
Divide by 10. (60.1 divided by 10 = 6.01)
Round to the nearest tenth. (60.1 = 6)
Add up the results for both indicators. (14.8)
Divide by the points possible. (14.8 divided by 20 = .74)
Multiply the total points possible by .74.(.74 X 21 Possible Points = 15.54)
