My dad has owned a little shoe repair shop called “Cope’s Boot and Shoe Repair” on Spanish Fork Main Street for more than 25 years now. While some see it or think of some see it or think of it as just his job, I see it as an amazing skill that he possesses. The handiwork and art that goes into his work is unbelievable. It fas-cinates me to sit and watch him as he works his hands and numer-ous machines, making a hopeless shoe look brand new.

This profession that my dad has is a very unique one, especially in today’s world. Most people have begun simply just throwing their shoes away once the heel comes off, or a the heel comes off, or a piece is unattached be-cause they don’t know that it can be fixed. But it can. I’ve seen my dad fix things that looked impossible, making them look like nothing was ever wrong.

Ever since I was younger I have loved to go down to my dad’s shop and watch him work. It’s amazing how much work can go into one little shoe. into one little shoe. From time to time he’ll have me help him out a little by hammering on a heel or dying and oiling a boot. I can only do a few very only do a few very basic things though. I obviously don’t have near the skill or experience as my dad does.

My dad’s shop is a great place to take photographs. There are so many differ-ent colors, shapes, textures, and just a lot of interesting things. things. You could spend all day in there taking pictures and every single one would be unique and different. I think my dad’s work is an aart in and of itself, so taking pictures of it is a great way to capture the beauty.
