Lucy Della Rosa and Sharon McCallum Fiber Art Reception: Friday, June 8, 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Lucy and Sharon will be filling our gallery with weaving, scarves and hats. Lucy is primarily a weaver, but for this show she also explores differ-ent types of felting. With both types of textiles she plays colors against each other and enjoys the two very different approaches. One is designed with a methodical execution while the other is often planned as she proceeds with a much freer tech-nique. Lucy attended Ohio Wesleyan and gradu-ated with a BFA. She also did an independent study in Weaving and took a semester off to take classes in NYC at the New School for Social Re-search and Parsons School of Design. Sharon describes herself as a colorist, weaver, and designer. She enjoys painting with yarn to create modern pieces in unique colorations and textures. Much of her inspiration and passion comes from her early exposure to tapestry and her extensive travels around the world, especially Guatemala. Sharon attended UC Davis with a major In Environ-mental Design and apprenticed with a tapestry de-signer.

Marjan Kluepfel and Guests "Unraveled: 7 Threads" Fiber Art Reception: Friday, July 13, 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Marjan joins six friends exhibiting a wide variety of fiber art. Marjan will be showing her art quilts and fabric sculptures of large 3D flowers and coral. These are amaz-ingly realistic. Her Titan Arum stands five feet tall. Here is the gor-geous bloom without the notorious aroma. The six artists joining Marjan

are: Bernita Dodge - silk painting; Debra Hosler - felted wool, collaged textiles, mixed media; Marjorie McWilliams - mono printed garments; Judy Coates Perez - mixed media textile; Louise Thompson Schiele - art quilts; and Martha Wolfe - art quilts. The gallery will be ablaze with color and creativity.

Marie-Thérèse Brown

Paintings Reception: Friday, September 14, 7-9 p.m.

Marie Brown is a most popular plein air painter. She states, “I love the sport of plein air painting — paring down my equipment, dressing for the weather, finding a good location and getting set up. I work quickly to capture the essence of a place and to create a foun-dation for the rest of the painting. . . Being in the mo-ment with nature and painting is the greatest of pleas-ures. Wherever I go I take my paints.” For her show, Marie painted multiple still lifes, using the same sub

ject but with different placements. She will also dis-play new plein air paintings from various California locations. Marie says that the more she paints the more she appreciates the beauty and the magnificent colors of our valley and farmlands. You will be de-lighted with her still lifes and all her adventures in the great outdoors as shown through her art. I

Susanne French Ceramics Reception: Friday, October 12, 7-9 p.m.

Susanne French is a ce-ramic artist who lives and works in Merced, Cali-fornia. She holds a degree in Industrial De-sign from "Hochschule fuer Gestaltung" in Offenbach, Germany, as well as a M.A. in Studio Art from California State Univer-sity, Fresno. Susanne's ce-ramics include highly textured vessels and ab-stract figurative sculpture. Her work has been shown in many national and international exhibits.

Christopher Dewees "A Life Among Fishes: 50 Years of Japanese Fish Printing" Fish Prints Reception: Friday, November 9, 7-9 p.m.

This retrospective will have prints from 1969 through 2018, showing the evolution of Christo-pher's techniques and styles. He will also include reproductions on tiles, and prints on fabric. Chris is an uniquely talented Gyotaku artist and author. His incredible monoprint fish images are truly one of a kind, as each print is made from a real fish. His lat-est book, "Life Among Fishes" is a large format, 180-page book including over 100 of his fish prints as well as anecdotes, poems and short stories. If

you want to explore doing Gyotaku yourself, complete instructions are included. This fine book is available at The Artery. His Gyotaku style is traditional and deli-cate, with an emphasis on structure, printing and movement of fish and shellfish. Every type of fish is quite different and requires a different approach. Chris did graduate work in fisheries biology at Hum

boldt State University and earned a Ph.D. in Ecology at UC Davis. While doing his academic work he pur-sued the fish printing process as well as studying fish and fisheries themselves. He has been a Marine Fish-eries Specialist at UC Davis since 1972, serving as a link between the University of California and the state's commercial and recreational fishing industries. This show is truly unique, with stunning art that gives us a window into Chris's world of the fish.

Deborah Lamoreux recently began a project that includes photographing and painting the ever changing orchards and mountains surrounding Winters, CA. "Orchards After The Storm" is an ex-ample of this emotive work, which will be in the gal-lery starting in May.

Linda Bird's new spring display

includes the "Dragon Fly's Gar-

den" tile, as well as the "Strips of Color" series, which are mixed medium pieces that include wood, metals, and art glass. You will love the transparent colors and intriguing combinations found in her work.

Linda Miller has new hearts and birdhouses, com-plete with delightful birds. These finely detailed wall hangings would enhance your home or your patio. Although this is far in the future, you can mark you calendar for the Crocker Holiday show, Thanksgiving weekend. Linda will have tons of person-alized orna-ments for dogs, kids, and fami-lies. The show will be at the Scottish Rite Center across from CSUS. For her new paintings Adele Shaw uses encaustic on wood to capture the energy and romance of water-falls. The Artery will also have Adele's works from her painting residency in Baja California Sur.

Look for Shannon Moore's functional work embellished with pyrograghy, such as spoons and wooden boxes. Some of her stunning work, from her recent Artery show, will be back in The Artery as well.
