Ashoka Fellows Snag Skoll Awards Of the new awardees Skoll announced last week, Ashoka Fellows Silverius Oscar Unggul of Indonesia and Adalberto Verissimo or Brazil were winners. Unggul has led efforts to shift Indonesia from illegal logging to community-based logging. He was a co-founder of ―Telapak‖ in 1997 and pioneered reporting on illegal logging in Indonesia's national parks. Today Tel apak‘s focus is on how to solve the problem via community-based sustainable resource management throughout Indonesia and beyond. Adalberto is a recognized leader in rainforest conservation and independent deforestation monitoring in the Brazilian Amazon. He co-fou nded ―Imazon‖ in 1990 which instituted technical mapping and satellite imagery in an effort to co ntrol illegal deforestation. With the backing of the Brazilian government and public prosecutors 75 million hectares of conservation areas and indigenous lands are being monitored.
