Most often times in January we take a personal inventory and ask what we need to improve on. Most times this focuses on things that we have known for some time we need to change. For me it is things like eat more vegetables, exercise, lose weight, lower your A1C, make time for my family, clean the gar- age…and the list could go on and on. This past few months I have been focused on WHY not WHAT I need to change. So as you look at your new year’s resolutions don’t just think of what you need to change, focus on why you need to make the change. Like these following statements: Quit smoking because I want to be at my Daughter’s college graduation ceremony. Eat better and lose weight so I will be able to play with my grandchildren. Take the month long course that I have been putting off so I can get the next promotion. If you move away from just looking at the what (quit smoking, eat Better, or take a class) and look at the why (to be there for my children in adulthood, to make memories with a grand- child, and get the promotion that you want) you will be more likely to succeed at your goals now and into the future. Good luck with your new year’s resolutions! By way of chapter news, the PDI is shaping up to be amazing this year. Mark your calendar for 29 March 2018. We have commitments from retired and current SES/GO from multiple organizations (MDA, NASA, Army Material Command, and DAU) to speak with us. It will be an event not to miss. Happy New Year!

Most often times in January we take a personal inventory and

ask what we need to improve on. Most times this focuses on

things that we have known for some time we need to change.

For me it is things like eat more vegetables, exercise, lose

weight, lower your A1C, make time for my family, clean the gar-

age…and the list could go on and on. This past few months I

have been focused on WHY not WHAT I need to change. So as

you look at your new year’s resolutions don’t just think of what

you need to change, focus on why you need to make the

change. Like these following statements:

Quit smoking because I want to be at my Daughter’s college

graduation ceremony.

Eat better and lose weight so I will be able to play with my grandchildren.

Take the month long course that I have been putting off so I can get the next promotion.

If you move away from just looking at the what (quit smoking, eat Better, or take a class) and

look at the why (to be there for my children in adulthood, to make memories with a grand-

child, and get the promotion that you want) you will be more likely to succeed at your goals

now and into the future.

Good luck with your new year’s resolutions!

By way of chapter news, the PDI is shaping up to be amazing this year. Mark your calendar

for 29 March 2018. We have commitments from retired and current SES/GO from multiple

organizations (MDA, NASA, Army Material Command, and DAU) to speak with us.

It will be an event not to miss. Encourage your co-workers to sign up for a membership now

so they can avoid the fee to attend the PDI.

Warmest Regards,

Community Service Projects Recap

Page 8 THE ASMC “TROLLER” NEWSLETTER

The Huntsville-Redstone chapter of ASMC strikes again! Members recently volunteered over 40 hours to support the local

Salvation Army 2017 Angel Tree program.

The Angel Tree program involves the community in sharing with those less fortunate in our area. The program acts as a link for donors to provide gifts of new clothing and toys to thousands of children, disabled, special needs, and senior adults who other-wise might not have anything for Christmas.

ASMC supported this event by operating the Angel Tree booth at Parkway Place Mall to assist donors with adopting angels and collecting the donated items.

Special thanks to the following members (and friends) who worked the booth over a 5 day span: Shameka McCoy, Felicia

Sisk, Stephen Elison, Caroline Olivera, Linda Eccles, Jamica Langley, Lisa Hughey, Grady Stallworth, Will Harris, Gina

Hranilovic, John Lonczynski, Sandra Dargin, Tony McAdory, Debbie O’Neal, Harriet Clark, Phyllis Williams, and Madi-

sone Betts.

Members of the Redstone Arsenal chapter of ASMC recently supported the National Children’s Advocacy Center (NCAC) in their annual holiday party. ASMC had thirteen volunteers who assisted with the 2017 Healthy Families Holiday Party held at the local NCAC facility.

The NCAC hosts an annual holiday dinner for families who are participating in the Healthy Family Program. This program teaches parenting skills to young parents facing risk factors such as poverty and lack of emotional support. ASMC supported this event by serving the dinners, assisting children with arts and crafts activities, and helping with clean up after the party. The ASMC volunteers also provided the desserts for the Party.

Special thanks to the following members (and friends) who worked this community project: Members: Eura Reaves (Project Chairperson), Doris Montgomery, Chad Durrance, Debbie O’Neal, Lisa White, Tinarenel Davis, and Non-Members: Marlyce Cook, Priscilla Sanders, Tiffanie Cooper, Paula Smyth, Shirley Bailey, Nerissa Pierce, and Michael Atkins.

The Redstone Arsenal chapter of ASMC successfully supported the January Food and Clothes drive held by Operation Stand Down. ASMC donated Walmart gift cards, deodorant, cough drops, thermals, underwear, socks, ramen noodles, chips, fruit cups, canned non-perishable goods, and a vast number of scarfs and tobog-gan hats.

Operation Stand Down provides homeless veterans with food, clothes and any items needed for everyday liv-ing. They are a non-profit 501(c)(3) grassroots, community-based program designed to help the nation's esti-mated 300,000 homeless veterans by providing access to community, state and federal resources. Operation Stand Down Huntsville strives to support local homeless veterans who battle the harshness of life on the streets. Operation Stand Down originated in San Diego, California in 1988. The Huntsville office has been in existence since 2007.

Special thanks to the following members (and non-members) who supported this community project: Mem-bers: Julie Ricketts (Project Chairperson), Madisone Betts, Dana Wilbanks, Chad Durrance, Felicia Sisk, Sharon Staten, Allison McGrath, Debbie Ritchey, Non-Members: PM Cargo Project Office, Susan Jester, Stephanie Warnes, and all the anonymous contributors.
