TAKING ADVANTAGE OF GRAD SCHOOL AND OTHER POST GRAD OPPORTUNITIES FOR HBCU STUDENTS

With your college career winding down, graduates need to start thinking about what their future holds and where to go after receiving their degree. For some, graduate school and continuing education is the answer, but others may be prepared to explore other opportunities.

GRADUATE SCHOOLFor those seeking Master’s degrees, Ph.D’s, and other advanced academic degrees, graduate school may be the path for you. Bear in mind that the experts recommend having a clear career path in mind when applying to grad school. The cost and effort of grad school won’t be worth it if your advanced degree doesn’t open the career path you want.

INTERNSHIPS AND RESEARCHIf you’re finished with school and ready to enter the “real world,” there are other post-grad opportunities available that offer more practical experience. Many companies offer internships for graduates to give them hands-on training in their chosen field. These are usually unpaid. Others enroll in research programs like Step-Up; these opportunities involve being on the forefront of developing scientific studies and getting practical experience at the same time. Plus, some will even compensate you for your time, giving you paycheck alongside valuable life experience.

UCF College of MedicineFaculty Positions The University of Central Florida College of Medicine (UCF-COM) is looking for clinical, medical, and educational leaders who are eager to help us build a growing and innovative campus located in Orlando.

UCF has grown to be the nation’s second largest university and has demonstrated particular excellence in technology, science, and simulation. The College of Medicine was established in 2006, and serves as the anchor of a broader biomedical cluster dedicated to innovation in health and wellness known as “Medical City” at Lake Nona, which continues to develop just east of the Orlando International Airport. 500 acres now hold the UCF Health Sciences Campus, Nemours Children’s Hospital, the VA Medical Center Orlando, as well as the University of Florida’s Orlando Research and Pharmacy campus.

Significant milestones include the medical school receiving full LCME accreditation, the opening of a multispecialty faculty practice, UCF Health in 2011, and the launching of the Internal Medicine Residency Program in 2014. The success of UCF Health has led to the additional opening of a new state of the art clinic facility in early 2015 to deliver high quality, team-based patient care as well as a future resource for medical student and house staff teaching. 2015 also saw the launch of a medical residency consortium in partnership with the Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) that will add up to 550 residencies and fellowships throughout Central Florida. The UCF-COM continues to educate and inspire individuals to be exemplary physicians and scientists, leaders in medicine, scholars in discovery, and adopters of innovative technology to improve the health and well-being of all.

We are seeking exemplary clinicians in multpule specialties to join one of our UCF Health locations, as well as dedicated medical educators who are eager to train the next generation of health leaders and improve the health of our community. We are an innovative new medical school with a passion for discovery. Interested in being part of this dynamic team?

Please visit www.jobswithucf.com to view our current faculty opportunities. If interested, an online application must be submitted to this site to officially be considered for an open position. In addition to the online application, candidates must also submit a cover letter, CV and the contact information for three professional references. For further questions please feel free to contact Brittany Hofmann at [email protected]

UCF is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer. All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply, including minorities, women, veterans and individuals with disabilities. As a Florida public university, UCF makes all application materials and selection procedures available to the public upon request.

Dear HBCU Fans,

Washington, DC is ready for the 2016 AT&T Nation’s Football Classic®, taking place September 15 - 18! First held in 2011 and played annually at historic RFK Stadium, the Classic is a celebration of HBCU culture, pride, tradition and heritage. The first four Classics featured Howard University and More-house College. On Saturday, September 17, 2016, Howard University and Hampton University will battle for the second consecutive year to deter-mine the “Real HU.” The AT&T Nation’s Football Classic® is more than a game - it is a weekend full of educational, cultural and community service activities and events.

HBCU students, alumni, parents and fans will have the opportunity to learn about the top emerging black tech business at Technoir’s Innovators Clas-sic (Sept. 15), gain insight into the sports industry at the Diversity in Sports Forum and career fair (Sept. 16), show-off tailgating skills at the Pepsi Block Party (Sept. 17) and volunteer to provide meals to those in need through Hashtag Lunch-bag DC (Sept. 18). See you at the Classic,
