These new members are welcomed and will no doubt add to the wellbeing of the Parish and its needs going forward. The new members are Clive Morris, Ed Wash and Chris Evans. A new street light has been erected in Back Lane and is awaiting connection to the power supply. This will give much needed light to a very dark pathway to the local properties. At the request of local residents in Long Thurlow a Dog Litter Bin has now been installed. Clive Hawkins Chairman, Badwell Ash Parish Council The ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING of the Parish Council will take place on Thursday 11 May starting at 7 pm. A regular Parish Council Meeting will follow this at approx. 7.30pm. Members of the public are invited to attend and an opportunity will be given to raise any matter concerning the parish with the Council. Defibrillator: Help Needed The parish’s life-saving defibrillator is currently unavailable for use. Unfortunately, the cabinet has been damaged and the Parish Council (PC) have been asked to find a new location for it. Clearly, this needs sorting as soon as possible to make it available for use again. Early use of a defibrillator after a heart attack increases the chances of survival significantly. The PC have in mind a couple of possible locations and would like to recruit a volunteer team to oversee the new installation and then, perhaps on a rota basis, manage the regular checks and maintenance on an ongoing basis. There is a sense of urgency as at the moment it is not available for use. Can you help? Ideally it would be good to have a group of three or four residents who could manage this project for the Parish Council and be part of the maintenance processes. Training is available. Please contact me on 01359 221600 or [email protected] if you would like to have a chat about how possibly you could help. Councillors following recent resignations. These new

members are welcomed and will no doubt add to the

wellbeing of the Parish and its needs going forward.

The new members are Clive Morris, Ed Wash and Chris

Evans.

A new street light has been erected in Back Lane and is

awaiting connection to the power supply. This will give

much needed light to a very dark pathway to the local

properties.

At the request of local residents in Long Thurlow a Dog

Litter Bin has now been installed. Clive Hawkins Chairman, Badwell Ash Parish Council

The ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING of the Parish

Council will take place on Thursday 11 May starting at

7 pm. A regular Parish Council Meeting will follow this

at approx. 7.30pm. Members of the public are invited to

attend and an opportunity will be given to raise any

matter concerning the parish with the Council.

Please show respect: dispose of dog poo responsibly It has been drawn to my attention that whilst

people are going to the time, effort and expense

of bagging up their dog’s deposits, some bags are

being thrown over hedges into private properties

in Langham.

We believe that dog walkers from nearby parishes

are responsible and I have spoken to both the

Parish Clerks of Hunston and Badwell Ash. They

have agreed to remind dog walkers of their

responsibilities for disposing of the bags.

Let’s hope this will stop the inconsiderate

behaviour. Lorraine Stanley

Chair of Langham Parish Meeting

Recycling Bins: New Bin, New Charities The recycling bins located next to 10 Hunston

Road now has an additional book recycling bank,

with proceeds going to the British Heart

Foundation. The revenue from Mid Suffolk

District Council for the other recycling bins will,

in future, be donated to St. Mary’s Church.

PPC Vacancy Badwell Ash's Parochial Church Council (PCC) is

looking for a new member to help run our small

parish. Could you help? We would welcome

anyone with enthusiasm – no church

administration experience is necessary.

We meet about 6 times per year. Any person

interested, please contact the PCC Secretary, Pat

Monk [email protected] or call 258538.

Caring for the Churchyard The churchyard, the area

surrounding the church,

was closed for burials in

1990, as there was no

more space. Only cremation memorials are now

allowed to be placed there. For the last 25 years,

the maintenance of the churchyard and the cutting

of the grass has been the responsibility of the

Parochial Church Council (PCC) with ad hoc

financial assistance from the Parish Council. Late

last year the PCC decided that this arrangement

should be put on a more formal footing and put in

place a legal arrangement whereby the

maintenance was formerly transferred to the Parish

Council. At their meeting in January, the Parish

Council resolved to transfer this responsibility to

Mid-Suffolk District Council.

BA History Society joins Suffolk Local History Council Badwell Ash History Society is now a member of

the Suffolk Local History Council (SLHC). The

SLHC was established to encourage and support

the study of local history and to act as an umbrella

organisation for groups and individuals with

similar interests in Suffolk. They arrange various

meetings and visits which members of the History

Society can attend details of which can be found at

http://www.slhc.org.uk/events.html.

The Badwell Ash History Society has grown and

there are now eight of us. There are plenty of topics

still to research and we would love to welcome yet

more new members. If you have interest in the

history of where you live and would like to join us,

or if you’re interested in attending any of the SLHC

events, please contact Pat on 258538 or at

[email protected] or Julie at

[email protected]. We would be glad

to hear from you! Pat, Howard, Stephen, Julia, Karl, Gina, Dudley and Dave

St Mary’s Clock Restoration Update

The restoration of the clock funded by The

Heritage Lottery Fund is continuing apace. The

fully restored and re-gilded clock face was put

back on the church just before Christmas and the

Turret Clock itself should be back in the church

within the next few weeks. Haward Horological,

the clock restorers who are undertaking the work,

will also be installing a self-winding mechanism

and a night silencing gizmo that will prevent the

clock from chiming during the night. As far as

we’re aware, once the clock has been restored this

will be the first time in over 40 years that the

village will be able to hear the hourly chimes which

will be struck on the C16 tenor bell in the belfry.

Hoisting up and refitting

the restored clock face

To celebrate the restoration of the clock the

Badwell Ash History Society, in association with

the Parochial Church Council, is holding a grand

opening and History Exhibition on Saturday

April 29th. The Exhibition will include displays

about the clock and its history along with the on-

going research that the History Society are

currently undertaking about your village and, back

by popular demand, the Recorder Books of the

village history in the 60s, 70s, 80s and later. Please

make a note in your diary!

The BIG Question?

As a resident of the Parish, would you like to see

the recreation field being used? Do you want Play

Equipment for your kids or grandchildren to play

on, or Exercise Equipment to maintain general

health, or a Reflective Area to sit and enjoy a

coffee, or even a Nature Area for wildlife?

That is the question...........

The cost for this project is £120,000 (approx). The

Village Hall Committee have secured £36,000 but

we need more. We can make this happen with the

support of the residents and local businesses.

It's up to you to get involved.

DAY OF FUN

15TH JULY In 2014 Badwell’s Jamie Smith started to feel poorly and since then he has been misdiagnosed with a number of things which has resulted in his illness lasting for nearly 4 years. Having been passed from hospital to hospital Jamie is still not well and now has to consider seeking private healthcare in order to receive the treatment he so desperately needs. During this time, he has been too unwell to work and is currently travelling to London in order to try and get the help he needs from a specialist Bacteriology Hospital. Unfortunately, without working, and costs spiralling, he now desperately needs to get well so he can start to enjoy his life again and get back to work. On Saturday 15th July 2017 we will be holding a funday for Jamie to raise as much money as we possibly can. It will be held at Badwell Ash Village Hall. So far we have some great attractions and stalls arranged but we are still looking for more. If you or anyone you know would like to have a stall, please do get in touch! https://justgiving.com/crowdfunding/gemma-turp Let’s Mend Jamie, c/o Horizon Search & Selection Ltd, Unit 3, Sandy Lane , Badwell Ash , IP31 3FA
