Banks Peninsula community collection pointsThere are a number of types of collection points. The main ones are:

How the service works• For residents not on a kerbside collection route, there are

community collection points where domestic quantities of bagged rubbish and recycling can be dropped off

• The amount of rubbish and/or recycling dropped off by a resident should not exceed the amount that can be placed in the kerbside wheelie bins. As a guide, this amount is two rubbish bags per week and three recycling bags per week

• Properties not on a kerbside collection route pay a part Waste Minimisation Charge on their rates

How to use the community collection points

Ensure you use the collection points correctly:•  Place only domestic quantities of rubbish

and recycling in the skips/wheelie bins/trailer

•  Only put acceptable material in the skips/wheelie bins/trailer. Check the information in this brochure and at the community collection point

•  Take green waste, large items, large quantities and commercial waste to a transfer station for recycling or disposal. Locations of transfer stations and EcoDrops are on the back page

What can go in the recycling bin...Plastics - clean household containers (no plastic film, wrap or strap)

Metals - clean household tins, cans and aerosols (no foil or other metal objects)

Glass - clean glass bottles and jars (no light bulbs or window glass)

Paper and cardboard - all clean paper, magazines and cardboard

No liquids or food

Please ensure that items are loose, not bagged

The rubbish skip/wheelie bin is for all items which do not go in the recycling collection except for...

The above items can be dropped off at EcoDrops (Transfer Stations)*Everyone benefits when our city is safe and clean.Wheelie bins containing hazardous waste will not be collected. Continued contamination may result in withdrawal of your kerbside collection service under the Christchurch City Council Waste Management Bylaw, 2009.

* Free within Christchurch. Charges apply within Banks Peninsula.

Is the skip/trailer/wheelie bin full or contaminated?If you notice that the rubbish or recycling skips/trailer/wheelie bins at a community collection point are becoming full, or if you witness non-compliant waste being placed in them, please phone 0800 800 169.
